' . -vi ' 1 A v The time to leave the security of high school and venture into the areal world is now approaching. The real world may seem un- supportive or dangerous at times but it is the place where we can realize our dreams and build a successful life. For some this first step into the world may be to college, for others work, or the armed forces may be next. No two people will follow the same road into the tu- tureg but, as long as the road is taken with pride and determination, the trip should be an exciting and fulfilling one. Although the end of high school is certainly a time to look towards the future, it is also a time to look back over what we have ac- complished. During the thirteen years we have spent in school, we have had our first experiences in many areas. Our first best friend, first term paper, etc., have most likely come about during our time in school. In the following years many more firsts will occur in our lives. Next year will be the first time many of us wil live away from home or work a full-time job. In order to successfully overcome these hurdles, we can rely upon the knowledge and experiences gathered on our trip through Kings Park High School. All of these experiences may not have been pleasant ones, but they all have helped us mature into the young adults we are today. l would like to wish all of my classmates the best of luck in anything they attempt. -Danielle Kleinberg, Valedictorian Ride, to a place beyond our time Reach, for the edges of your mind, and you're there! See, that the iight will find its way Back to a place where it will stay, make it stay . . . So take hold of the flame, You've got nothing to lose, but everything to gain . . Although these lines may appear at a quick glance to be just a paragraph of mysterious, well-rhymed lyrics, the underlying meaning of them goes far beyond words written on a page. They are lyrics from Queensryche's song l'Take Hold of the Flame and they can be interpreted as a message of individualism, fulfilling your potential, and seizing every opportunity to reach your dreams and aspirations. Queensyrche is not alone in conveying these important ideas, as many of the world's heavy metal bands also express these philosophies in life and their songs. lron Maiden's Wasted Years is a message telling us not to waste our lives because these are the years when we have a chance to determine the course of our lives. Twisted Sister's We're Not Gonna Take lt and I Am, l'm Me talk about living life to its fullest because you make the decisions involving your destiny and potential. Even Anthrax feels individualism and self-pride are important, as the song Imitation of Life discusses independent thinking and being a unique, complete person. All of these ideas have great value and meaning for us. lt's not necessary to base your existence on what others think or do because you should live your life as a unique individual. Never pass up a chance to experience new and different things, as regrets of lost op- portunities should not exist when you look back on your life. Don't let the world pass you by before you have developed yourself as a well-rounded person, done everything to the best of your ability, and climbed towards your greatest aspirations. But neither forget that while we are individuals, we are part of a world community and have responsibilities towards it. Whatever we do and become we should contribute and make a positive impact on the world - for it is our world. As individuals, each of us should strive to be versatile, strong-willed, and diligent, always trying our hardest and doing our best. lf we can follow these lessons, we will have a path of which we can be proud and cherish forever. What you are is what you make yourself. Who are you? Who will you be? -Charles John Goetz lll, Salutatorian I vAcademic Awards l

Most people think their classes are not very interestingg but I have found that the teachers here do their best to make learning a better experience than-just teaching from textbooks. If somebody disagrees, ask them to attend Mr. I3's English class or Mrs. Schoch's physics class for a day. I'm sure they will change their opinion about school not being fun. I am very happy that I had the opportunity to learn in that kind of atmosphere. g -Rob Carey I am very honored to have been recognized as an Outstanding Senior. I have gone through 12 years of schooling in Kings Park and have enjoyed each year. The fact that I am dyslexic has made me try even harder to help people. I enjoy volunteering at St. John's Hospital each Thursday and as President of SADD, feel that I am doing something positive for my fellow classmates. It is good to get involved in school activities as much as you are able, I urge all students to find something to do for your school and communityg you will feel extremely rewarded. I -Aimee Beth Colgan Being chosen an Outstanding Senior out of an entire grade of outstanding seniors is quite an honor for me. The Class of '88 has been an important part of my life these past four years. Together, we have accomplished many things. No other grade can compare to Our Class of '88...Kings Park spirit has shone through in everything we've done. It is going to be difficult saying a final goodbye to KPHS, a place that has been my second home for some time. But, keep in mind, the best is yet to come for us all. Good luck in the future...and l'II be seeing you at those reunions! -Laurie Costa Kings Park has really been a great place to grow up. I am glad to have experienced many of the activities that Kings Park has offered, both inside and outside of school. I know that next year when I go off to college that I will have a host of good memories to cherish of Kings Park by. -Missy Feigelson Through my experiences at Kings Park High School and in the community, I have learned that if the student body is behind a program, it will not fail. The successful students at Kings Park High School have always relied on the support of their peers. To me the greatest challenge of all is taking an idea to the student body and getting them to support it. -Howard Friedman So many memories and friends were madeg all to be left behind. But memories of the events we shared will always remain in my mind. The long hard hours to cheer or rehearse: the meetings we held faithfully will always be an important part of my memory. I'd like to thank my friends, my family and the faculty, And I hope everyone can also be proud of their accomplishments at KP. y I , -Josephine Gallarello Ten years of working hard at soccer has paid off. My high school career has been exceptionally rewarding, as I was on the 1987 Empire State Team, made the all-County team, as well as the Exceptional Senior team of Suffolk. Especially rewarding was being a member of the Kings Park HS. team that made the county play-offs. Participation in Lacrosse, indoor track, the Big-Brother program, Varsity Club, Special Olympics, radio show, Toys for-Tots, all contributed tota terrific experience. s My goal is to attend West Point and my memories will be about Kings Park High School. -Dierk Hohman Outstanding Seniors ' -O . - Q :Sb Q, ., if l i I - '33-f I' .
