Q ueens of the Court t, , 'f if' Basketball seasons in Kings Park did not fare too well this year, but the girls were somewhat more victorious than the boys. Af- ter losing several close games, . '-', the girls accumulated a 7-13 over- ..li5:,-f all record and 5-9 league record. f The team's regular starters were guards Lynn Melling and Sue Cappelmann and forwards 4 - ' t Lynda Nealis, Toni Varacchi, and '.---' Jennifer Schuman. Most of the of- fensive power was provided by t Nealis, who scored over 200 points this season, and Varacchi, ,..--,'.,r--i who averaged over eight points per game. 1 Under the leadership of the 'Q three team captains Jennifer Schuman Sue Cappelmann and Tina Zuppa and the coaching of Mr Hess the girls met with some successful moments during their toughiy scheduled season Al Q three of its starters Melling Cap pelmann and Schuman along with fellow seniors Tina Zuppa and Jeannie Geir to graduation its leading scorers Nealis and . Varacchl will be returning next year With the other returning players and the same effort and determination displayed this year the girls basketball team holds though the team will be iasirtg great expectations for the future. TIGHT COVERAGE: As an opposing player puts her elbow in Toni Varacchi's mouth, Toni remains cool and puts up a perfect shot. The 1987-88 season marked the second consecutive year that the wrestling team dominated its league and won the league championship. While recording an overall 11-1 record, the wrestlers remained undefeated in league matches 18-OJ, winning all by huge, undisputed margins. In fact, they won all league matches by more than fourteen points and their average margin of victory was twenty-eight points. As a team and as individuals, the Kings Park wrestlers were overwhelmingly victorious. ln the area of tournaments, the team came in first in the League IV Championship Tournament and the Ward Melville Christmas Tournament. They also placed second in the Smithtown Tournament and fourth in the Bellport Christmas Tournament. In addition, they captured twelfth place in the Section Xl Tournament, which encompasses most of the schools in Suffolk County. The starting team consisted of regulars Jose Cavero, Nick Mancuso, Dong Lin, Danny Diamond, Joe Schultz, Dave Pagano, Mike Maletta, Joe Leo, Pete Krpata, Joe Montaldo, Pat Clancy and Chris Short. As individual wrestlers, Kings Park had fifteen all-league wrestlers and four league champs, both record highs for the school. Although the team will be losing seven senior starters, it appears that the 1988-89 season will also bring success to Kings Park.
