With a successful year went many individual achievements as ' All-League honors went to sopho- more goaltender Jennlfer Wirth sophomore fullback Nancy Bar- barite junior midfielder Diane Squillacioti and aversatilexjunior -w Toni Varacchi who played all po- sitions. Toni was also selected as the team s Most Valuable Player. Completing its eighth win- ning season in a row, the Girls' Cross Country Team finished with a league record of 4-2 and a sixth place finish in the county meet. Running into au- tumn days of mid-November, the highlight of the season was perhaps their victory over their long-time rival, Bay Shore. Although the team had an excellent season, individual achievements were received by Sue Duval and Jessica Squicciarine, who were cho- sen for both All-League and All-Conference selections. ln addition to winning two hon- ors, the exceptional Sue Duval was named the team's Most Valuable Player. Other hon- ored runners included juniors Nadine Grimm, the recipient of the Coaoh's Award, and Ka- ren Sebbesse, selected for the Most improved Award. The team was led by cap- tains Enez Laurence, Kathy Williams, and Sue Duval. The team was a young one, made up of mostly freshmen and ju- niors, and looks forward to a good future. By losing three of its long-time members, seniors Jennifer Dempsey, Enez Laur- ence, and Kathy Williams, the team will have to rely on the remaining experienced run- ners. Each girl had been a member of the team since eighth grade. GAINING GROUND: In the heat Of the race, Sue Duval attempts to pass an op- posing runner.
