Their efforts paid off, making it a year to remember. For the first time since 1979, as a result of an 8-6 record, the Boys' Varsity Soccer Team gained a playoff spot. With great determination, skillful coaching from Mr. Nally and the outstanding performance of all the players, this team met with a successful season. Although the team lost in its playoff bid 4-1 to Brentwood, many highlights brightened the season. Several key wins and comebacks contributed to the team's success, but several players stood out throughout the year. Dierk Hohman and Danny Fischer were the steady halfbacks. Hohman, a member of the Empire State Games Soccer Team, was one of the team's three captains, was named to the Suffolk All-County Team and was presented with the honor of the team's MVP. Another key player was Jim Knott, the fullback captain named to the All-League Team whose consistent motivation and hard-hit- ting play accounted for much of the defensive expertise. Other distinguished players included Ken Burke, the forward captain who created much offensive spark, and John Schaffer, the fullback who won the Coach's Award. The JV team also met with victory, as Mr. Ostebo skillfully coached them to a 10-7 season. Overall, the varsity team's triumphant season was quite an accomplishment for both Coach Nally and Kings Park soccer. r'7r5'1i A PM 'S 1 - ' . . 1 - . f .. .. . .... ,,. N. No pain, no gain. This adage has been heard in every . locker room. But what makes an athlete want to toil day after day, listen to demanding coaches, and face a possi- ble injury? Senior Pete Krpata shed light on this question. The intensity of competition, the thrill of victory, that feeling of accomplishmment, all make sports attractive. Sportsmanship alone brings a satisfaction that nothing else in life can. The KINGSMEN Balanced Image ignites a spirit in all who proudly don the Maroon and White. FREEZE FRAME: While he balances a soccer ball in each hand, Phil Paganetto uses his tele-kinetic powers to levitate a third.
