SUPER S 'ii A Superdance? At our school? For seven hours? Although these were some of the reactions heard when the Honor Society first starting planning, attitudes were quickly changed on January 20. That was the day that the Help Wipe-out MD assembly intro- duced the beach-like theme and en- couraged scores of students to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy as- soication. When the much awaited day finally arrived, over 300 energetic beach bums arrived in luau attire, sponsor sheets in hand. With meals, snacks, volleyball games, dancing and entertainers available throughout the night, there was not a moment without excitement. The festivities were brought to an end with the announce- ment that over S7000 had been raised. Once again, the members of the Honor Society proved that their talents extend tar beyond the realm of aca- demics. Inspired by the leadership of officers Jon Goetz, Joel Rosenthal, Jeff Lackowitz, Rob Gordon, David Josefs- berg, Andrew Jacono, and Cindy Brody, they carried out several suc- cessful community service projects. Throughout the year, members donat- ed their time to tutor other high school students. At the Halloween party, Hon- or Society members donned creative costumes and ran the haunted house. Their major project was a Super Dance for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. - V alia HONOR SOCIETY SUPER DANCE RAISES 7500 DOLLARS FOR MUSCULAR DYS- TROPHY: A Good time was had by all: Joel Rosenthal, Mr. Merone, Melissa Waxman, and Ericka Abel: Scott Hughes, Cathy Saa- vedra, Stacy Sapienza, Ericka Howard and Deidre Giliberti, Steve Michael, Mr. Oldisg Maura McCauley: Lori Werkstellg Bob Ca- poraleg Steve Wolfe, Bill Nolan and John Carini. COMPETITORS ALL The math team consists of a group of dedicated math students who com- pete in contests against local schools. Each meet begins with a snack, Miss Merz's famous cupcakes when our school hosts a competition. Then comes the actual event, consisting of those six questions, answered two at a time, individually. The team with the most right answers that day wins the contest. Our team almost did this in the first two meets, coming up just an an- swer or two short of first place - a great showing. MATH CLUB: Miss Merz, Steven Lustig, Bill Tew, Kathy Williams, Sue Seliger, Jennifer Dempsey, Navid Kazemi, Danielle Kleinberg M'E S'H: Howard Friedman, Mrs. Holmes, Howard Bender, Michelle Nobel, Adam Falik, Sean Robinson, Chris Stabile, John Kovacs, Jon Goetz, Steve Lustig, Na- vid Kazemi, Jeff Lackowitz, Bart Ayres, Fiob Gordon, Mark Piesner. COMPUTER CLUB: John Kovaks, Russ Van Scoy, Eric Engalhardt, Jodi Granger, Jennifer Mugno, Bernadette Permisa, Na- vid Kazemi, Mark Brown, David Preisler, Mike Spodek, Bryan Meer, Matt Tratner, Steven Lustig. MESH ! Math!Computers I The computer club welcomes all stu- dents regardless of their level of exper- tise. Faculty advisor Mr. Brennan has high hopes that the club will be able to work with IBM to preview and judge the latest software before it is market- ed. As always, Print Shop remains the favorite floppy. The club has been working in conjuction with the guid- ance department to create pictures and graphics for the upcoming curricu- lum guide. Club president Mark Piesner has kept those printers clack- ing as banners and signs scrolled out. Parents and students were entertained by the computer club's exhibition of Apples for Back to School Night. Mem- bers have kept the student body well- informed by running the electronic message board in the junior cafeteria and keeping the hallways well-lined with information signs. Mr. Brennan says, through the computer club stu- dents with varying backgrounds in computers come together and share their ideas. And that's what it's all about. The first question that comes to when one mentions the MESH is, What does MESH stand mind team for? To set the record straight, MESH is an acronym for Math, English, Sci- ence, History Team. But it also stands for the meshing of many minds in order to form one very successful aca- demic competition team. The team prepares for competition with constant drilling. Trivial Pursuit is one of their prime sources. Who were the first five players to enter the base- ball hall of fame? and Who is on a twenty dollar bill'? are just a few ex- amples of the many questions the team sharpens their skills with. After all is said and done, it is time to see just how well everyone meshes This is accomplished in the four major com- petitions, We are proud to announce that the young scholars excelled in ev- ery competition. Advisor Mrs. Holmes declared l was astounded at the wealth of knowledge which the stu- dents possessed and acquired...lt's a pleasure to watch students enjoy aca- demicsf'
