ls Pink Floyd not mellow? ls Michael Jackson for real? Radio show mem- bers seeking the truth were forced to come to terms with these types of questions. The type of music accept- able for the morning radio show has been a source of contoversy. Although some students enjoy that hard-rockin' sound of Floyd in the morning, others like the more mellifluous tunes of Billy Joel. The radio show under the leader- ship of Corin Caliendo tPresidentJ and Dierk Hohman tVice-Presidentj has reached new dimensions. Its an- nouncements at the end of the day have been expanded and revitalized. Though the dispute rages on, every morning, most of the students and fac- ulty are pleasantly surprised by the sound of music that greets them as they enter the building. Education and fun...the two factors by which the Touring Club stands. No matter where the club goes, the trip is a mixture of both learning and great memories. Led by advisor and founder Mr. Robert Grimm, the Touring Club has become one of the school's most popular clubs. This year the club has visited New York City and scenic Port Jefferson. The club has given me a chance to see things l otherwise would not have the chance to see, said one member. lt's got something for everybodyl f ...wwf-aa MW ew-A This Perrier's for you! The Students Against Driving Drunk chapter spar- kled with spirit for the safety of fellow students. Sixty-eight members strong, the club's goal is to instill an awareness of the dangers of driving drunk. At homecoming, they paraded with a banner bearing the motto Friends Don't Let Friends Drive Drunk. The holiday season was brightened by red, green and white Balloon-A-Grams, proclaiming the slogan Celebrate So- ber . To further enforce their cause, SADD also sponsored alcohol aware- ness week in the spring. High school is where the future be- gins, graduation is just around the cor- ner. Unfortunately, many of us have not taken the time to seek out the clubs our school has to offer or to plan for our futures. DECA, the Distributive Education Club of America, is an orga- nization which allows students to show their school spirit while learning about the business world. The students learn practical business skills and partici- pate in shaping their future and careers as well. On January 6, the members of DECA took part in a competition held at Suffolk Community College. Several of the members took home trophies and qualified for the competition held in Buffalo, New York. The school store, run by DECA, gives the club members the opportuni- ty to practice applying their skills. We've all heard their advertisements: everything you need in a school store, except shoes. Through out the day the store is frequented by students in need of anything from a pencil for their test, to a birthday card, or even a quick snack. Thanks to the efforts of DECA, the school store has been a success. GET ME A BUD, QUICK: A Bud's Term Paper Kit, that is, as Steven Lustig makes a purchase from Paula Engel. DECA: Steve De Laura, Christine Norton, Terence Noonan, Dawn Woods, Eddie Ecker, Jeanine Di Silvestre, Debbie Mc Crory, Aimee Colgan, Terry Schmidt, Mrs. Roth, Mr. Fieuter, Melissa Berman, Melissa Waxman. SCHOOL STORE: Mrs. Both, Tracey Wolfe, Virginia Becker, Joanne Spence, Mr Reuter, and Aimee Colgan. vDECA!School store I

Wlmwq-fuunlsl1 Ls.. HAVE YOU SEEN THE LATEST GALLOP POLL? Delighted with the news that Pat Robertson is the front-runner is Dan Kessler. Laughing at the prospect is Christy Wells. WORKING HARD: Or hardly working, is Sean Robinson as he prepares for an ex- temp speech. CONTROLLED ENTHUSIASM: Claiming her trophy at the Richard Lesser Memorial Tournament is Elizabeth Berko. AND THE WINNERS ARE: The speech team returns from a long day of competition. I v Forensics I 'kwa A. 5 in The Speech and Debate Team: it's not just a club, it's a way of life. The tireless efforts of the debate team are rewarded by the ever amus- ing wit of our fearless leader, Mr. Liebl, master of the bread jokes . lt's the kind of wit that only a debater can appreciate, if even that. Armed with Lieblisms, the team tackles resolutions such as: Live free or die, The speech team is coached by Ms. Decker, a.k.a Mother Tyrant . Under her direction, Zelda , Cyrano , and a host of oth- er characters parody Pyramus with a sob. Each Saturday, we meet at 7:00 AM, grab our coffee and bagels fbut no dairy productsj and depart. Upon ar- rival the efficient competitors bury themselves in a pile of tape, scissors, and paper wishing they had done all of this last night like everyone else. The rest wait and socialize. Eventually we all go our separate ways. Some to taste victory, others defeat. The first round is always the same Matt and Brett cartwheel back to our table. Amy, sulks, sure she was de- stroyed . Steven Lustig is his normal, hyper-active self. Aileen Lee, affection- ately called the mutilator , has just calculated that she has placed last in the tournament. The cry of I need to hear some Bread! can only an- nounce the arrival of Biff Berko, while foreign languages and dialects can only indicate Vicki Wiseblatt is near. We never see Dan, he's too busy trying to to pick up all the Sacred Heart girls. As the day draws to a close ffour hours behind schedulej a hush falls over the room. It was only a false alarm. That feeble attempt at humor may not be funny the first ten times, but after that, it kind of grows on you. Amid kisses and congratulations we make our way to the bus, where the coaches are invariably trying to talk the driver into leaving without them. As we scramble aboard the bus and re- ceive our ballots Mommy Judge! and I was slimed! are among the comments heard, along with Lustig! I'm going to break that leg of yours. The day is brought to a close with the team heading for Cathay's or Taco Bell. Any way you look at it...the speech and debate team will look at it another way. But in the words of one member, lt's warped...but we love it, and we wouldn't give it up for the world! 'editors note:We would have men- tioned Sean Robinson, but he doesn't deserve it.
