This year, Interact is raising money for the Make-A-Wish Founda- tion. This organization fulfills the last wishes of terminally ill children. They try to make the last months of the chil- drens' lives as happy as possible. The officers of interact this year are Cindy Brody, president, Sharrie Pia- centi, vice-president, Missy Feigelson, secretary, Alyson Elish, publicity, and Keith Peabody, district representative. They are all working hard to make the wish of a special child come true. Last year, Interact raised money for a child in need of a new heart. Recently, the child was flown in from her native country to receive the transplant. lnteract's ability to make people smile continues. On Halloween, mem- bers visited St. John's Hospital's pedi- atric and geriatric wards. The patients were thrilled. The cheerleaders per- formed and brought tears to the eyes I fi , H jgwgl -fri i.j'L, Am,g,,gugpQ hxl ,441 of the elderly. They were so happy to see the young, lively faces that they did not want them to leave. The annual Christmas Party at the Playground on the Sound was also filled with smiles! Santa thrilled the children by making a surprise appearance and a game of musical chairs kept them on their toes. As you can see, Interact is a club that brings happiness wherever it goes. High school is where the future be- gins, graduation is just around the cor- ner. Unfortunately, many of us have not taken the time to seek out the clubs our school has to offer or to plan for our futures. DECA, the Distributive Education Club of America, is an orga- nization which allows students to show their school spirit while learning about the business world. The students learn practical business skills and partici- pate in shaping their future and careers as well. On January 6, the members of DECA took part in a competition held at Suffolk Community College. Several of the members took home trophies and qualified for the competition held in Buffalo, New York. The school store, run by DECA, gives the club members the opportuni- ty to practice applying their skills. We've all heard their advertisements: everything you need in a school store, except shoes. Through out the day the store is frequented by students in need of anything from a pencil for their test, to a birthday card, or even a quick snack. Thanks to the efforts of DECA, the school store has been a success. GET ME A BUD, QUICK: A Bud's Term Paper Kit, that is, as Steven Lustig makes a purchase from Paula Engel.
