Band, horns up! cries drum major- ette Stephanie Lochman, raising a whistle to her lips. Forward march! Under the leadership of Stephanie, Bobby Caporale and advisor Miss Bes- tercy, the band marched off to a great start. Activities this year included rigor- ous preparation at band camp, spirited half-time shows at the football games, as well as parades on Long Island and in New York City. The highlight of the year no doubt was the Hofstra March- ing Band Festival in October, where our band and kickline performed for a crowd of thousands. Enthusiasm abounds from fruit as a fundraiser to shouting the theme cheer: We are the Maroon and we are the White, comin' at you with all our might! A psyched up bunch, they always manage to have a good time, and they bring meaning to the words t'K.P. Pride ! TRLITTIN' THEIR STUFF BOY! I LOVE THIS JOB:Wondering if he could limbo under the banner is Drum Major Bob Caporale. With him are Jill Damski, Nicole Condurso, Kristin Nowak, and Colleen Esoff HERE THEY COME:The marching band and the highstepping Hoyalettes.

A trip in the early fall took the form of a Marine Science expedition on a research ves- sel off Fire Island. ln mid-November a group of hearty souls hiked 8 miles along the Nissequogue Ftiver's Green Belt Trail. Each member hiked for pledge money and also carried a large bag to pick up debris. The science club has remained ac- tive with educational field trips. One of their most memorable was the trip to the Hall of Science. There, students were able to see the famed showcase, Seeing the Light. This is a hands-on showcase where students are able to participate in hundreds of hands-on demonstrations. Each demonstrates energy or light up close and at work. Club members learn first hand of the intricacies of scientific principles. Clam Club members are anything but tight lipped. Screaming at each other as they fell off rafts, waded through mud and braved the high seas, was all part of the fun. The club is all about achieving maximum clam growth and telling the maximum num- ber of people about it. 'F'- LURGUABI M' The members of the Wind Ensemble, a select group consisting of the music department's finest instrumentalists, all share a common interest-- the love of creating music together as a coher- ent unit. Under the leadership of Ms. Bestercy, the Wind Ensemble always delights its audience at the school con- certs, treating its listeners to a taste of the classics. This year, several of the students were selected for All-County, and Vicki Wiseblatt was chosen as an All-State clarinet player. The cool sounds of the jazz age are revived by our own jazz band, under the direction of Mr. Stentz. The jazz band entertains crowds with classics reminiscent of Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington. Dedicated to their instruments and the desire to achieve the sweetest sounds possible, the musicians per- form difficult pieces that require dedi- cation, and an understanding of the moods and tones of the music which are achieved by diligent practice...and all the right notes. THRASH! Jamming with members of his band, Trilogy, is Chris Petrucci. JAZZ BAND: Mr. Stentz, Jon Goetz, Dan Fischer, Denise Burmil, Darren Grill, Jeff Boles, Mike Flaherty, Chris Cahill, Greg Thompson, Scott Evans, Keith Rubin, Joel Rosenthal, Flay Kramp, Sue Duvall, Steve Campise, Pete Mancuso.
