Kaleidescope gives the students an opportunity to have their work published. Poems, short stories, artwork, and photo- graphs are accepted and reviewed by the Kaleidoscope staff. Mrs. Porcelli, this year's advisor, stated: With the experience of Melis- sa Waxman and Lauren Gray as co- editors, the enthusiasm of this year's staff, and the creative talent of the stu- dent body, this issue promises to be the best ever. gsgy s 5 :VN H, 4 'N Changing with the times, our school newspaper made its transformation from the Kings Herald into Take Five. Editors Amy Nichols and Alyson Elish felt it was time to give the paper a new look. The first step was the in-house production of the newspaper on a computer. This reduces the production costs and allows the staff to publish more stories. Advisor Mr. Sackett, Mr. Brennan and Mrs. Todaro, helped the newpaper staff has conquer the com- puter room. Despite some intial difficul- ties in adjusting to the computerized newsroom, this new system has made Take Five better than ever. EXTRA! EXTRA! READ ALL ABOUT IT! A trip in the early fall took the form of a Marine Science expedition on a research ves- sel off Fire Island. ln mid-November a group of hearty souls hiked 8 miles along the Nissequogue Ftiver's Green Belt Trail. Each member hiked for pledge money and also carried a large bag to pick up debris. The science club has remained ac- tive with educational field trips. One of their most memorable was the trip to the Hall of Science. There, students were able to see the famed showcase, Seeing the Light. This is a hands-on showcase where students are able to participate in hundreds of hands-on demonstrations. Each demonstrates energy or light up close and at work. Club members learn first hand of the intricacies of scientific principles. Clam Club members are anything but tight lipped. Screaming at each other as they fell off rafts, waded through mud and braved the high seas, was all part of the fun. The club is all about achieving maximum clam growth and telling the maximum num- ber of people about it.
