This was the most spirited day of the year, the pep rally. Upon en- tering the gym, one heard the marching band play Corona , a parade march with a vibrant trumpet solo by Dan Fischer. The varsity cheerleaders then made a grand entrance jumping, clap- ping, stomping and shouting. They set the mood with their cheer I-lelIo. Next were the fall athletic teams: the stars of the track teams, the soccer teams, and the tennis team enjoyed the roar of the crowd. The band played some terrific tunes as the klckllnelpranced their way into our hearts making the rally a complete success. Nothing but the football team could follow up an act like that. And what an en- trance they made, ieaping into the gym full of enthusiasm and spirit. The pep rally succeeded in instilling everyone with a feeling of confidence and excitement. Where can students tie them- selves to their classmates, gyrate with hoops, roll around on the floor, dress in funky clothes use their heads as orange-squeezers and their back-sides as balloon- poppers, and play Mickey Says? The answer can only be the lnterclass games. This com- petition-fiiied event took place on the evening of October 15 in the main gym. Their was a bull mar- ket on ticket sales this year be- cause each grade was allowed to keep the proceeds their own offi- cers sold. At 8:00 sophomores, juniors and seniors decked out in gold, white and maroon respec- tively, stormed the doors to the main gym. They were ready to win at all costs, For the first event, strains of U2 urged contestants to run faster and faster around the lines of musicai chairs. When all the dust had cleared one junior was left seated, although on the floor. The 1950's fad of huia-hooping was revived for one night as con- testants gyrated their way to suc- cess. The final event was Simon Says with vice-prlncipal Merone keeping all competitors on their toes. The spirit of the lnterclass games was not limited to the contestants. Spectators cheered their classes to victory with chants of Go home seniors! and Bedtime sophomoresl As Maria Madonia said lt was a great way for all the grades to get. together and play in the spirit of competition.
