PIEDMONT AV: KENGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. 28086 Alright, so they made you come home from the beach — August 25, 1970. The halls had a certain tenseness in them. Freshmen would not move ten feet past the front door. All the halls and corners were filled with upper classmen trying to find out who was teaching what, what happened where, and if you had really heard that! It didn’t take long to establish the old routine, and it wasn’t long before the establishment stopped allowing two extra minutes after the tardy bell for you to find your new class. Everyone jived during activity period; the juke box had actually arrived, but there was a brief period of silence during the year while the juke box was replenished with its stolen records. Then the day of the first football game came and everyone was aware school had begun. Football players were tense with anticipation as were all their fellow students. All this enthusiasm led to the Mounties’ capture of the Sportmanship trophy. Dances, detention hall, clubs, gettin’-it-together sessions 1n the gym, parades... The announcement was out-no midterms! Then the days went faster and faster. We systematically moved from class to class. Nine- weeks grading was established. Homecoming came and went. Ballgames were won and lost. SAT scores came. Many were faced with college. All things must come to an end, it’s true, but it was your choice at the beginning of the year or perhaps for the ‘71 graduates, 4 years ago whether the culmina- tion of another year would have a happy or sad ending. a sis CR Ee As your high school days race past, you are faced with more and more responsibilities, decisions, problems, and questions. This high school is here for the purpose of preparing you to cope with these. Aes But it is here only to help you. The final decision is yours. Take advantage of it. The offer is here but the ac- ceptance 1s up to you. Tests you thought you couldn't survive and teachers you felt you couldn't face, another day now slip into the background. ALS SAN Yes, a year has come and gone with each detail important in its own way. These memories will remain — hazy but not forgotten. he. 1 S. It, They Seniors Speak out, you've got to speak out against the madness, You got to spead your mind if you dare. But don't try to get yourself elected. If you do you had better cut your hair. Cause it appears to be a long time before the dawn. It’s been a long time coming, it’s going to be a long time gone. But you know, the darkest hour is always just before the dawn. Perhaps you grew into a better understanding of yourself and your present and future position in life. Or maybe you grew into a better understanding of the people around you. Many of us must now grow away from friendships we hope never to completely lose, into a world never before known to us in which new friendships must be made, and seemingly impossible tasks must be faced. August came with high aims and dreams which were either triumphantly carried through or sadly dropped by the wayside. If you came through, more power to you and may you continue to do so when you assume your role in life. SSRN casa ONINL IOAN: BAW ES acne ee “ey Your high school career can give to you only what you will let it. It can be as good or as bad as you make it. Have you tried? If not, perhaps you still have a year or two in which to reach out for many new opportunities. If you are a senior — reflect and profit. It is hard to let go of a glimpse of the future for the realities of the day, so remember the good things that happen today, while you face the last tests of this period of your life. Life can and should be looked on as a challenge. Enjoy it but don’t take it for granted. Each day becomes more important than the last. High school life gives you a kind of security, but it lasts only four short years. Face life courageously and pray for wisdom. Leave the thought behind you that your life had a purpose, that someone or something profited by your being there. a « « a a 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 ‘ ‘ ‘ 4 Senior Directory Carl Adams Chorus 3,4; F.F.A. 1,2,3; Drafting 1; Bible 2.
