The aim of the club is to develop an interest in all phases of French life. Its over-all goal is to help individuals im¬ prove personal, family, and community living, now and in the future. Distributive Education Clubs of America is the only national youth organization operating through the public schools to attract students to careers in market¬ ing and distribution. VICA exists in order to train youth in leadership and develop character and citizenship. Football C oaches: Mr. 120 121 122 The following boys received awards at the 1966 Football Banquet: Sandy Mauney and Tommy Finger, Most Valuable Player Award; Kenny Plonk, Fred Plonk Blocking Trophy; Chuck Gladden, John Gamble Scholarship Award; Eddie Bridges, Most Im¬ proved Player Award. The Kings Mountain High School football team of 1966 ended the season with a record of five wins and five losses. This record was ob¬ tained while playing one of the toughest AAA football schedules in the state. Team captains were seniors, Tommy Goforth and Sandy Mauney. The team showed fine school spirit along with fine sportsmanship. The boys basketball team for 1966-67 came up this year with a winning team. The five starters were Steve Spencer, Larry Burton, Nelson Conner, Ken Mitchem, and George Adams, Larry Burton and Nelson Conner were the only senior starters. This year’s was quoted by many people as the best the school has ever had. Even though the team didn ' t come out with a winning year they played hard and tried their best. The team was hampered greatly by injuries. Many of the starting players were injured and weren’t able to play. They were hardly ever beaten by a big margin, but lost many times by just a few points.
