This school year serves as a vivid reminder that three major areas of life directly affect you as students. These three areas are a part of our New Day in education in North Caro- lina. The first area centers on public interest in formal education. We have been able to determine that student interest in achieve- ment is tremendous. By parental influence and personal desire your accomplishments far exceed those of students a decade ago. Most of you are preparing well for the space age and this particular year rates superior. The second area reflects a constructive at- mosphere for human relations. We find that you are most anxious to respect the rights of others and that you reflect an acumen of the basic problems involved. The moral force ex- emplified here is most encouraging. Always remember that your faith in the Supreme Being must have more depth than an inveter- ate worshipper of religious custom. The third area tells of a compeling desire to keep the ideals of your country strong and free from totalitarianism. Threats from num- erous sources confronted us this year and we have realized that rights of free men are earn- ed through great sacrifices. I trust that you will let the three ideas of (1) Strong faith in God (2) Excellent formal education (3) Keen human understanding of individuals and nations constructively in- fluence you throughout life. Let this annual help you remember that Kings Mountain High School was a vital part of your preparation for success in these endeavors. Mr. Harry E. Jaynes, Principal
