Mr. B. N. Barnes, Superintendent Kings Mountain City Schools. Superintendent Gives “Whole Self’ to Job The Kings Mountain High School has an interesting history. In 1786 Captain W. T. R. Bell, a Confederate officer, opened a private boarding school in Kings Mountain. Soon, a two-story building was erected on the site of the present Kings Mountain High School and a military feature added. Students from South Carolina and other states as well as from North Carolina attended this school. In 1878 the school was changed from the Kings Mountain Military School to the public high school of Kings Mountain. Through the support and cooperation given by patrons, teachers, and students, this school made splendid progress through the years and has given us a rich educational heritage. We are happy to see our patrons, teachers, and students continue to give this school wholehearted support. A school continues to be good, not just because it has a commend- able history — it continues to be good through design, careful planning, and cooperative sup- port. With the spirit of cooperation existing at the present time in our school district and especially in our High School Student Body we look forward to the future with confid- ence. 12
