TRAVEL NOTES-1960 By IO DORMAN fas told to Brodie Old Stuff Crumpl Since I finished training in 1Cl53, I've been planning to make this trip and now at last it seems my dreams are about to be fullfilled. Joyce and I said our farewells and I started out on my long journey with great anticipation. Joyce is Supervisor of Male Hydro at Bliss, while I do my best to hold down Pediatrics at City, As I drove through the hills of Kentucky, who do you suppose I came across? None other than Onita Jones, riding bareback and carrying her little black midwife satchel. It seems her love of O. B. really stuck. She was very happy to tell me she was returning from Mayfield where she had delivered a ten pound eleven ounce boy to Mr, and Mrs. Benny Kent, So, from that, you can gather what Jackie is doing these days! I stopped outside of Memphis to eat at the Millington Naval Base Grill. Here, to my great surprise, I met with Lt. Col. Mary Ann Thorton, Mary Ann had given her corpsmen a break and come out for a sandwich. She had recently received a letter from Mary Sweet Pea Whittington. Mary is now Supervisor of the Johnathan Jasper Williams' Newborn Baby Clinic in Boston she tells me. Those Yankees and babies got the best of ole' Whitty after all! Coming on down Highway 61, I stopped in Cleveland to see Eva Rozier, who now answers to Mrs. Okley Campbell. Eva looks real good though she says her three, boys really keep her busy, Looks like Eva is well on her way to having that big family she always said she wanted. In Leland I stopped to see Gene Smith and Lorrine Pittman, It seems these girls did alright too. They are Evening and Night Supervisors out at the Leland City Hospital. Gene tells me she is anxiously await- ing her final papers so she may join her husband in Holland. It was growing late so Itook my departure and turned my car towards Greenville. My first visit, of course, was to the King's Daughters Hospital. Everything looked about the same but with new faces. That is, until Margorie Brunt fMrs. Elton Jenningsj came flying down the hall. It seems that 3-ll is no longer the old maids shift! Margorie tells me that she had Doris Rico over for 'supper recently. Doris is still trying to decide whether to join Robin in California or stay with her Public Health work, Margorie says that Ferri and I-largett have married local boys and both have big families now, However, this doesn't keep Ferri from being Night supervisor and Hargett spends her free time doing private duty. While in the vicinity I called Mom Taylor. Mom tells me she had a letter from MacAlpine and Mac CMrs. Howell Dupre, that isj, is still following the Colonel around the country, She's hoping they will soon settle down to their little home in the country and have a family. My journey is over and my dream fulfilled now I may return to City Hospital with a happy heart to tackle the indocrination of my newest group of affiliates. is M My---ul-..,t...-.4., ' - .a-..,a, -,.
