CLASS HISTORY It was in the fall of 1945-46 that we became a part of that mysterious organization, the high school. How pleased .we werel Mr. J . M. Laxton was our principal then and has been throughout our high school years. He haas been an inspiration -and a guiding light to us. During our freshman year we were under the competent supervision of our home room teachers Mrs. H. B. Adams and Mr. James B. Reece. Wayne Sherrill, who later laft us to join the armed services, was chosen to play Abe Lincoln in the high school play. That year our home was in the auditorium of the old building because we were so crowded. This was very inconvenient because of the noise and confusion. In our sophomore year Mr. -Reece was again our guide, very carefully steering us through Julius Caesar. Mr. Lester Hollar joined the 'High School faculty as our Sci- ence and Math teacher. Nancy Barlowe was given a part in the high school play, Tha Little Minister. The Beta Club, an honor organization, was organized of which two from our group, Mabel Wooten and Henry Medlock, were among the charter members. Our class was well represented in the Allied Youth Club organized the same year. Dan Carlton and Johnnie Joines, ex-servicemen, joined us to complete their high school education. Mr. Reece was replaced by capable Mrs. Mabel Thomas in our junior year. The most outstanding event of the year was the Junior-Senior Banquet which we gave. Mabel Wooten, Henry Medlock, Tommy Laxton, Nancy Barlowe, and Lilyan Icenhour were m-arshals for the Senior play and graduation exercises. A most pleasant prospect was our moving into the new high school building at the beginning of this our senior year. We are being guided by the efficient hands of Mrs. Virginia S. Cobb toward that final day when we will have completed our high school education. The Seniorsh are looking forward to the Junior-Senior Banquet and the Senior Play. We are happy to welcome Nelson Watson to our midst as one of this year's sixteen graduates. A It is with many high hopes and a few misgivings that we, the class olf '48-'49, go forth to make the most we can of our varied careers in life's school. ,Y Class Historian, Mabel Wooten HWHSCOTS 77,Y ., .2 ' ahhles K aron ' Vat ters Carfro 1 l Laxton .. .Jlnl ,Y -hx A AQ - '1 ' 'Q
