KING'S COLLEGE r C: WILKES ' BARRE h-l i: PENNSY LVANIA 1 8 7 1 1 inn September 1, 1974 REGIS 74 marks the end of an era The Decade of Progress. It commemorates the Graduation of the first class with a full complement of women, the largest Class in the history of King's College, and the Twenty-Fifth Graduating Class. With this in mind, it is my honor to present this annual on behalf of the 1974 REGIS STAFF to the whole College Community. Many students ask the ever-increasing question: Why is there a yearbook at all? Isn't it a victim of the nonsentimental sixties? The King's College yearbook has somehow managed to remain a viable organization that we hope fulfills a role within the structure of our total campus life. Large measure of this success is due to the people who've worked hard to produce this book. Most of the credit is due, however, to the nature of the yearbook role itself. The yearbook is the only campus publication that produces an overview of the school as seen by students. It also provides the type of coverage that allows a single event to be related to the total pattern of what happened in the social, political, academic and sports year. Yearbooks which failed to capture a year's essence are usually failures. At King's we are continually forced to reevaluate the strengths and weaknesses of past books. Then we use what we learned as guides for future editions. These lessons have led me to make several changes in the structure of the 26th Edi- tion, refining it further in this edition. The structural changes were coupled with a major reorganization of our staff. For the first time in the REGIS' history, women have played a major roll in the development of this edition. Two major editorial positions were held by women. Freshmen and Sophomores have also held major editorial positions. Our book has a pictorial theme CHILDREN , reminding us that we were once young and have progressed from infancy to maturity. The 27th Edition contains ten sections of and about the people in the King's Commu- nity. It is packaged in 320 pages, 38 of which are color pages, and includes 2,151 photos with 76 pieces of art work. The cover and dividers are of similar design. Each di- vider has in introduction that goes into the photo and comes out of the maze into the section. It demonstrates an unending cycie of travel. For example: The Senior Section has the last initial of each member of the Graduating Class beginning with the Class Offi- cers and comes out of the maze with the Degrees they earned. Lastly, there remains the need to define the College's commitment to student journal- ism in general and the REGIS in particular. With our recently developed Communica- tions Media Department, the valuable display of confidence from Miss Mary Barrett, Yearbook Moderator, and the support of the Board of Student Communications Media during my past two years as a REGIS official, I am sure that the commitment is genuine. Finally, it is the students that make the REGIS and they must retain student interest in the book and keep it a leader in campus publications. W David L. Krantz 1974 REGIS Editor-in-Chief
