Within a city, along a river . . ..King,s College, 133 North River Street. home of the Lehigh Valley Coal Company, was a few years after the birth of Kings to become the Collegels permanent residence, a place where men after a few ears would leave to run, perhaps, their own companies someday. King Coal was ying, but the business of education was enjo ing a renaissance which would start to transform Wyoming Valley and - hope ully - America. For over twenty years, the Colic? grew, not so much in its physical plant, but in gersonality. The seed of physica growth needed water, and the administration of resident Kilburn was to meet that need. The new breed installed itself, and within a few years a new dormitory appeared, then a gymnasium, now a new library near completion e a dream under glass approached realization. Buildings, though, are but shelter for scholars. What counts is that the men trained in these buildings will acquire - it is devoutly wished - the ability to differentiate between beauty and ugliness, and plant a flower on the granite dunghill of urban America. The test is the future, the tool is informed vision . . . Kings is in a state of transformation. As new buildings arise, old ones, such as HafeK-Marian dormitory, are Partially reconverted into oHices and classrooms. Nort ampton Hall, the College s first home, becomes a hive for classrooms, school sublications, an art studio, and an increasing collection of Indian artifacts. Four oors of the Hotel Sterling are shared by collegians and aged pensioners. Everywhere is change, contrast, life. We cant be stopped.
