QQ 'FJHE FGALISMAN 'M Surprise On a clear. cold january evening, jan. 4, the Senior class journeyed to Mrs. Coale's apartment, surprising her with a farewell party. There were ahout twenty present. Games were played, Ice cream and homemade cake was served. Mrs. Coale was presented with a heautiful lavelier, hy the Senior class, as a token of rememhrance. Welcome, Mac Mr. McDonald was welcomed hy the Senior class, in the form of a theater party, on Feh. 5. They attended The Taming of the Shrew. Everyone enjoyed the play with the exception of one or two who told us they would like to meet Mr. Shakespeare. Weiner Roast The Sophomore class have had many good times this year due to the excellent direction of Harold Livingston and his efficient class committees. A weiner roast held at Water Works Park was the first event of the Soph, social and one thoroughly enf joyed hy all. On jan. 18 a real good time party was held in the gym. of the school. Games and refreshments made it a remarkahle success. Surprise ! The Comhined Girls' Choruses gave a surprise party for Florence just hefore she left for Chicago. There were ahout fifty present. It was held at Miss Munns' home. She was presented with a goingfaway gift. Oratory Harold Livingston with an original oration entitled Blind won the annual Cos' inopolitan Contest. He presented the cup he won to the school. If this cup is won hy the same school three years in succession, it remains the property of that school. We expect to keep the cup, as Harold has two more years of High School. Harold also won second place in the Bradley InterfScholastic meet. He was coached hy Mr, McDonald, National Chorus This year we were ahle to send a representative to the National High School Chorus, which was held at Chicago, March 28th. Uur representative was Florence Poshard. The National High School Chorus consisted of four hundred and twenty students in one hundred and sixtyfeight high schools in forty different states. Peoria sent eight meinhers to this chorus. Senior Weiner Roast The Senior Girls were hostesses to all the athletic fellows on April 4. They went to the Scout Camp, Newt Kinney and Newell Ingram were the heroes, having eaten fifteen hot dogs and fifty marshmallows apiece, Mr. MacDonald led the games, which everyone enjoyed immensely, There were ahout hfty-five present. '51-IE KGALISMAN N Dorothy Wright Wins Honors AI1L1ll1Cl' series of the school's successes were made hy Dorothy Wriglit Dorothy won two cssay contests and placed second in the third. Her essay. Economic llenelits - . .. - w ol Edison s Inventions, won hrst in the city. The Rice Memorial Essay C.ontest on Wh:it Peoria is Doing in the Waiy' of Social Service was her second victory. She placed second in the Heyl Contest, whose HIDICCI was, Wli:1t Features in the Constif lution are Purely Ainerxc.uif ' These last two contests in which she participated are annual events. Halloween Party Vkfitches, hohgohlins, and ghosts were slowly moving towards their annual meet' ing place, Kingman High School, on Halloween night. During the evening prizes were awarded to the hest costumes. The lirst pri:e was won hy Betty Lou Phelps and Florence Hill, who were dressed as immigrants. Harold Livingston, who was dressed as a mountaineer, was awarded second prize. Evelyn Seahurg won first hoohy, and Richard Wzillatct' won second hoohy. One interesting feature of the evening was a Freshman play directed hy Miss Berman entitled The Gathering of the Nuts. Re' lireshments were served and many games were played wlncli were enioyed hy everyone. Backwards Party Everyone is to dress liackwards' is the sign we read on our hulletin hoard. This Freshman party held in the gymnasium, Nov. lo, was a huge success. Many inter' estmg games were played which made the party one good time from heginning to end. Grace Poshard and Pete Perkins won the prizes for costumes, Delicious refresh' ments were served and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the party. Miss Gladys Hedstrom supervised. Talisman Campaign The Talisman was launched in a novel program Decemher ll, 1929 Florence Poshard, .is editorfinfchiet, presented the Talisman Book. The different editors came through the hook and told their positions on the stalf. Then an exciting campaign started when the hoys hegan to receive the suhscriptions. The faculty were the first lllll per c 'nt Christmas Play The Christmas play was held Decemher QI, 1929, It was .1 tahleau ol' the story of the shepherds' vision, ending with the scene of the nativity. Marjorie Phelps took the part of Mary the Madonna: Joe Weher, joseph: Dorothy, Edith, Mildred Wright the three angels: Nyal Roszell, Harold Livingston, Richard Slotter, the shepherds: Donald Phillips.
