JUNIOR SPONSORS: Mr. Conkling; Mrs. Coch- rane; Mrs. Teders; and Mr. Edge. We, as Juniors, started probably our most important year by electing our class officers as follows: President - Scott Cowell; Vice-President-Steve Voskhul; Secretary- Treasurer-Theresa Simpson. J. R. McMillan, Greg Sink- beil, and Randy Mecklenburg were the Student Council Representatives this year. Mary Beth Darragh was elected Class Queen and rode on the Junior Float, The Reluctant Astronaut”, which won fourth place in the Homecoming Parade. Denny McDorman and Patsy Mueggenborg were our class favorites. Among other projects we held a dance in the auditorium to help raise money for the contest. We ran a close second with the Seniors. We have had many new responsibilities this year. Most of our new experiences came from working on the Junior stand during football and basketball seasons. One very important task we undertook was planning the Jun- ior-Senior Prom. Many long hours were spent organizing this prom. We would like to express our appreciation to our Junior Class sponsors: Mr. Edge, Mrs. Teders, Mr. Conkling, and Mrs. Cochrane who have spent much time and energy for the benefit of the class. Looking back over the year, we feel we have accomplished a great deal. We’ll be looking forward to next year. 29 Ju u viS Loohe L RvtwtotfL t{v Cl $ RZ tg$ Steve Sanders Jacque Jech Terry Hogan Jean Hendrix Mike Endres Karen Smola Randy Mecklenburg Ona Gay Montgomery Billy Sigl Susan Harrison Roy Fisher Donna Meier 30 fljt L P5aiuu tg th Jv. -Qi . The Student Council representatives are Steve Baker and Ross Payne. The many hours of hard work were justified when the sophomore class float entitled ‘‘The War Wagon won first place in the homecoming parade. Riding atop the float was our class queen. Debbie Sisk. Our class party for the first semester was a hat party held November 17. To be admitted, one had to wear a hat. There were games followed by a dance featuring “The Center Street.” This is the sophomore band whose members are Steve Baker, Jimmie Jeter, Terry Helt, Mike Edge, Gary Brownlee, and Don Franz. The class favorites, Joyce Bredel and Tony Schoelen, were candidates for annual king and queen. Class activi- ties to raise money during the week included a dance featuring “The Center Street,” aslave auction, cake raf- fles, games, and a food sale on Friday. After an exciting and wonderful year as sophomores, we are eagerly waiting to begin the next year as juniors. Our sponsors are Miss Claudette Hoat- son, Mrs. Bonnie Dage, Mr. James Young, and Mr. Landis Denley. Turquoise and white are our class colors. Homecoming Day was the highlight of our first semester. Our class float, “Mutiny on the Bounty” won third place in the homecoming parade. Linda Baker, our lovely queen, graced our float in the parade. Our Freshman Class chose Mike Keller and Vivian Smith to represent us as class favorites during the year- book contest. After a long, hectic week of activities, they were named Most Popular Boy and Most Popular Girl. Other exciting moments in our school year included the winning of the spirit stick more times than any other class. The members of our Freshman Class have partici- pated in all the various activities of the school. We are proud of our representatives on the football team, the basketball teams, the band, student council, pep club, F. H. A., and F. F. A. We, the Eighth Grade class, have accomplished a great deal our first year at Kingfisher High School. At the beginning of the school year our class elected as our officers: Terry Pursell-President; Sandy Armstrong-Vice President; Deborah Newell-Secretary-Treasurer; and Billy West-Reporter. Our officers have become ac- quainted with class procedures and duties during this year. Our officers and class did a very capable job with the Annual Sales which was a highlight of the school year. Our class worked very hard in the classroom, but they also found time for athletics. Our boys basketball team had only two losses during the basketball season. Our class sponsors, Mr. Manning, Miss Gilmore, Mr. Harrison, and Miss Bartosh were very helpful this year and we appreciate everything they have done. We are looking forward to our Freshman year. We hope it will be as good a year as this one was. In their opening game. Kingfisher jumped out to a 6-0 lead but was un- able to hold on to it as Bethany won the game 14-6. The Yellowjackets' defense kept getting stronger but a failure to take advantage of opportunities and a flood of penalities brought the Western Heights Jets to a 14-10 victory. Kingfisher won its first game over Harrah with the dominant feature being a strong defense. Only by pass interceptions or fumble recoveries was Harrah able to cross midfield. Crisp blocking and aggressive ball carrying were much in evidence in this 14-0 victory. The Tigers were the second consecutive victims of the Yellowjackets. A total offense of over 300 yards allowed the Jackets to control the ball and the defense throttled all Crescent efforts until late in the game. The result was a 16-8 victory. Kingfisher took the opening kick-off from Weatherford and marched 85 yards to the 1 foot line when a fumble ended hopes of a major upset in the making. From that point on the superior speed and size of the Eagles dominated the game which ended 49-6. Then two touchdowns in the second half put the game out of reach for the Yellow - jackets. A game ending touchdown by KHS was nullified by a penalty ending the game 20-0. The score in the Fairview game was fairly close but Fairview completely dom- inated the game. Only the alert recovery of several fumbles kept the score down. Several injuries hampered the Yellow jackets' efforts and resulted in a final score of 15-6. The Jackets played one of their better games against a strong Hennessey team. Penalties cost the Jackets one touchdown and possibly another. A strong defensive effort limited the Eagles to one touchdown until late in the fourth quarter when a long touchdown drive gave the Eagles a 14-6 victory. An outclassed Jones team fell victim to the Yellowjackets as homecoming was celebrated. Kingfisher scored in practically every fashion as punt, runbacks, passes, interceptions, and blocked punts either scored or sat up touchdowns. The second team gained valuable experience during the second half and helped score a 45-7 victory over Jones. The Yellowjackets' encounter with the conference champs was not a pleasant one. This game proved that statistics are misleading as the Jackets beat the Wa- tonga Eagles in every phase except the important one. Down 35-0 early in the second quarter, the Jackets played on even terms from that point on resulting in a final score of 49-14. Coach Myers try- ing to think of something to say to the team. Spirit 68” is not only our annual, but is the feeling of enthusiasm and pride that lingers in the halls of K.H.S., as well as in the hearts of the students and graduates. The staff and 1 hope we have put a special memory in Spirit “68” for each of you to recall in the future. If it happened, we tried to represent it in some way. I hope that the up-coming graduating classes will carry with them a portion of the enthusiasm and pride that King- fisher High has given us. If they can do this, then K.H.S. will have many more good years just like Spirited “68”. 124 PATSY MYERS - Assistant Editor CONNIE OPDENHOFF - Editor ArkJuuOtl Cx id ubutcyiS Peoples National Bank Otasco Meacham Studio Kingfisher Co-op Elevator Association Kingfisher Federal Savings Loan Ellyson's Sinclair Ralph Enix Drug Phillips 66 Smith's Office Supply Sandusky Chevrolet High School Grocery Wardrobe Cleaners Solomon Agency Doyle Johnson Pontiac - Buick - GMC Frances' Boutique Dads and Lads Crandall and Sanders Hukill's Nursing Home Maxine's Flowers Armour Agri.
