oo u -c o o I. Dedication II. Administration III. Classes IV. Activities and Organizations V. Royalty VI. Annual Contributors T A B L E O F C o N T E N T S I I made the great decision to become a teach- er at the age of eight years. I attained this goal by firm determination and persistent effort. Each new school year presented an opportunity to gain more knowledge in growing a life of service. I have always considered the classroom as a large family gathering that makes the world seem a much less lonely place. 1 have enjoyed living in such an environment. It has been a privilege to serve the youth of the community and to have had a hand in making the world a much less lonely place,” for them. It has been a stimulating and gratifying ex- perience to teach and study human beings, es- pecially the young. For the association with men and women of learning; for the friendships, too deeply felt to speak of lightly; and by no means least important, for the comradeship of youth— many facets of a teacher’s way of life—I feel deeply thankful. I shall leave Kingfisher schools with gratitude for nearly a half century of hard work, filled with warm and cherished memories, and spiced by many exciting recollections of in- tellectual adventure. I hope that we may continue as fellow stu- dents, always striving to have confidence in our- selves and in our school—proud of its enduring vitality, and inspired by its vision. Most of all may we recognize its service and achievement in working so effectively to build successive gen- erations of fine young people into educated and dedicated men and women ready to approach a new threshold of life. As I close my tenure of service with the Kingfisher schools I have no message of farewell. We have walked together up history’s hill and have discovered the great adventure in human relations; we have lived, learned, laughed, and loved with understanding hearts and minds. So, may I say, as one of our modern com- posers has so aptly expressed: So long, it’s been good to know you!” e I I Seated: Monroe Darragh. Dale Wrobbel, Harold McMillan, Emmanuel Vleth. Do you recall all the happy memories of events listed in this annual? To those of you who are graduating and others who have shared in the many events pictured here, 1961 is indeed a wonderful year. For some of you listed in this annual, 1961 will be the end of your formal education; for others, it will be a step to technical and higher education, whichever the case may be. You have been given the tools and foun- dation on which to build a better life. Use them with wisdom, and all the remaining years will be filled with Highlights like 1961. Principal's Message Education is the most prized possession that a person can have. It is something that no one can take from you regardless of how he tries. The highlight of your public school education comes in your senior year when you are planning for your graduation. As you look back over the past twelve years, you analyze to see whether you have received an educa- tion or whether you spent twelve years that meant noth- ing to you. It is our sincere hope that you who are leaving us have realized the value of good education and will go into the world prepared to take your place as a worth while citizen and leader. Lighting the way into the future for students of K.H.S., the efficient and well-qualified faculty encourages and guides us through our school days. ?f«ieiLi?IrSwea,!?1e w?r Mrs- Buswell, Mrs. Eva Solomon, Mrs. Ruth Payne, Miss Frances Moore, Mrs. Mary Cochrane, Mrs. Mary « J in1 , ii?' . «ys Michelsen Standing: Homer Harmon, Jack Edge, Paul Stiner, Rodger Howell, Dale Bailey, Carl Crowder, Terry Swann. We, the Seniors of 1961, are about to bring to a close a succession of wonderful and rewarding high- school years. We realize that graduation is the beginning of a new phase of life for us. We will soon be seeking our fortunes in various ways. Some of us will go on to college to train for a fuller life, while others will remain close to our alma mater. Thus’ we shall be drifting apart —with mixed emotions. We look back on our years at K.H.S. with apprecia- tion for our class sponsors who have worked with us so tirelessly. Mrs. Carl Cochrane has guided us during the Prom and graduation activities, three years of our Senior highschool sojourn. Mr. Rod- ger Howell worked with us during our Sophomore and Senior years, while Mr. George Ogden sponsored us in our Junior year. Highlights of our Senior year were the Senior Tea, Senior Trip, the Jr.-Sr. Prom and Banquet, Baccaluareate and Graduation. As we look toward the future with hopes and ex- pectations, we accept the challenge before up and hope to make Kingfisher Highschool proud of us. the highlights of the year, Jerry Glenn—President; Judy Little—Vice-President; Patricia Ellyson—Secretary; Jackie Cochrane—Treasurer; Julia Anderson—Reporter; Kenny Martin-Ronnie Williams. -Student Council Representative; Class queen, Judy Little, rides the Senior Float in the homecoming parade illuminate the success of our Senior Class, KAREN WALTER Edmond Scholastic Meet 2; Honor Roll 2-3; Chorus 2; Pep Club 2. Pin-ups at school!! Highlighting the Junior year was the dividend of a wonderful Junior-Senior From, the result of a successful season in the concession stand. The first semester was filled with plans for the Homecoming Parade, at which we presented our class queen, Carol Senn, on the Junior float, using the theme, “Chicken Little.” Our class, not to be out-done by anyone, worked together for three days supporting Judy and Eddie Lip- poldt, our representatives in the Annual King and Queen contest. Our work paid off, as both Judy and Eddie won the Annual titles. All of this has been accomplished under the leader- ship of our class sponsors, Mrs. Teders and Mr. Bailey. During the year, we have achieved many goals as we have worked and played together. We will carry these memories with us as we look forward to even greater successes in our Senior year. Ready to step into the spotlight of leader- ship willed to them by the departing Class of'61, Dick Lemon, treasurer; Calvin Ellyson, sergeant at arms; Jack Steele, vice president; Kay Hawkins. student council representative; Gary Cupp, president; Arnold Droke, secretary (not present). All of us have managed to keep busy with our many school activities. One such activity was Homecoming. Our float featured the class queen, Janis Van Horn, along with our Class colors, green and white. “Float over Crescent,” the float’s theme, was a smashing success, even though our float barely finished the parade due to structural difficulties. Under the fine leadership of Mrs. Buswell and Mr. Edge, we completed an exciting year of fun and work. Dian Harrison reigned as class queen. Mr. Virgil Wells and Mrs. Jeanne Biehler preside as class officers. During homecoming, the first important event of the school year, we boasted the winning float. The theme selected, “Crack up Crescent,” consisted of a miniature moon and rockets fired by Dian. Dry ice streaming from the backs of the rockets added a touch of realism. These are our highlights for this year and last. Last, but most important, is graduation, when we shall become the full-fledged sophomores of “ ’62” and the seniors of “ ’64.” Welcoming many new class-mates, the Freshmen enthusiastically look forward to three exciting years of fun and education at K.H.S. Council Repre- 5 e r e n t When our class officer pictures were taken for tue annual, we were told to look “mixed up,” as if we did not know where to go. That was not hard to do, because it was typical of the way all of us felt last fall when we came to Junior High School. No sooner had we settled down and became used to the mixed up place than we had to elect our class favorites, Linda Snow and Johnny Pappe, for the most- popular girl and boy contest. We tried hard to win, but did not. We hope we will have better success next year. We are looking forward to next year when we will not be “Little Seventh Graders” any more. We will al- ways be grateful to Mrs. Michelsen and Mr. Crowder, who were our sponsors, for the wonderful guidance they gave to us and for helping us make it a year of many highlights. Charles Every The Kingfisher High School Band opened its season by attending the State Marching Contest held at Chick- asha, Oklahoma, where the Band received a rating of ’’Excellent.” As the year of 1960 came to a close, the Band pre sented, for the public, it’s annual Christmas Concert, posed of 68 members, went to Okeene to join with the instrumentalists from five other cities to form the Six- City Concert Band. While the concert season was at its peak, the Band competed at Edmond and Weather- ford to win honors. In spite of this busy season, the Band still found time to present a Sacred Concert and a Spring Concert for the people of Kingfisher, and a ‘Pops” Concert for the students of Kingfisher High School. The climax of the year was the much-waited-for Tri-State Contest at Enid, which Bands from throughout the United States attended. At Tri-State, the K.H.S. Band joined in marching, concert, and sight reading competi- tion, with solos and ensembles from the Band also com- peting for honors. The graduating seniors of the K.H.S. Band wish continued success for the organization. They will cherish pleasant memories of their association with the Band for many years to come. Band Officers: Pat Ellyson. The K.H.S. chorus began its 1960-1961 season with Mrs. Christine Davis serving as director. She came up from the gradeschool twice a week to direct us. She was acting as a temporary director until the post could be filled by someone else. At the beginning of the second semester, Mr. Homer Harmon took over the responsibility as director. He reorganized the chorus and gave each officer a definite responsibility. Three trips were planned for us, provid- ing we showed sufficient enthusiasm, interest, and de- velopment. These trips consisted of contests at Edmond, Weatherford, and Tri-State at Enid. Toward the end of the year, a concert was held with all of the other schools in our county. The chorus personnel consisted of about 70 mem- bers, about 75% of whom were in the chorus last year. The chorus appreciated the very able leadership of our two chorus directors during the 1960-61 year. Many interesting and educational programs were presented. One program consisted of a panel of mothers who discussed ’’Managing Time, Energy, and Money.” At another program, ‘‘Under What Conditions Should Consumers Return Purchases,” a local merchant talked to the members. Besides the educational programs, the chapter also held a St. Patricks Day Party. A project to carry out one of the National Objec- tives of Future Homemakers, “To Develop a Better Un- derstanding of Our Family Members and to Contribute to Their Well-being,” was Secret Grandmothers. Each member chose an elderly lady in the community and re- membered her throughout the year and on special occa- sions. At the end of the year, the members honored their Secret Grandmothers with a tea at which they revealed their identity. During February, the members made Valentine favors for the patients in the Kingfisher Community Hospital and the Rest Home. One of the highlights of the year was the State FHA Rally in Oklahoma City, which many local members at- tended. The Kingfisher chapter was also honored by having an elected state officer. Sylvia Lohmeyer served in the capacity of Northwest District Vice-President. Sylvia visited various chapters in her district and spoke to them. It s also the responsibility of the Vice-Presidents to participate in regular State Executive Committee meet- ings. This was a most profitable year for members of the local FHA chapter. They gained many new and prac- tical ideas and learned more about working cooperative- ly with fellow FHAers. First Row Mrs. Bill Lohmeyer, Sylvia Lohmeyer President.
