Doyou remem- ber that back ofthe high brick wall of our new High School audito- rium, an old building of 1911 vintage once stood, and with beckoning arms urged troops of students to come within and partake of the feast of learning? Our new physical plant will make possible a pleasant, more effi- cient type of instruction that was missing in the old. The desire for learning will be keener and we can realize that the concentration thereof is the only hope of the future. In our new surroundings we must continue to foster intellectual growth as a primary object: likewise the new environment will stim- ulate an attitude for continued learning throughout life. The citizens of Kingfisher have long and earnestly thought, planned, and worked to improve their schools in every way. The entire community has participated in making possible the erection of an adequate modern school plant. Last year, under the able leadership of Superintendent Russell Pursell and the members of the Kingfisher School Board a new building project, which embodied an entirely fresh concept of a school plant, was launched. This project entailed the demolition of the old Junior High and Shop buildings: the modemization and improvement of the Senior High building: the erection of a new auditorium, class rooms, band room, shop room, science room, and F. F. A. quarters: and the enlargement of Wash- ington Grade School. This half-million dollar project will be completed ln August. It has been an unusual-and rewarding-experience to have seen the school plant materialize before our very eyes from day to day. It has been a dream come true! Do you remember only yester-year when we sat on the old stone benches out front, strolled about the campus, or just pondered about our dream school? And now-the dream is a reality. Off with the old - on with the new, has indeed been a watchword here in Kingfisher this year. This is a new day and we are keeping abreast of the times Only a few months ago man's most ancient figure of speech passed into the oblivion of reality: aiming at the moon is no longer fantasy. We too, have accomplished our dream--a new school. Once again we are gathered together as a community of purposeful men and women to further improve our educational system and create a suitable field of learn- ing for our youth. We can all share the satisfaction of knowing that the new educational program we move into reflects the conviction of our fine fac- ulty as to the way this school can be more re- sponsive to its opportunities. We are challenged to attain the ultimate in learning in our new surroundings. As we go forward into this pioneering year in Kingfisher, welcoming all future students into our fellowship, let us re- mind each other: Each of us is a citizen of this community and is expected to act as such: we are the heart of an The entrance to the new gym. institution, and what we are, it will be: our business here is learning and that is up to each of us.
