AUGUST 20, 1957 Q QU L U Ana 2 W fx WST uperintendent The Annual Staff is to be commended for its united effort in giving this written and pictorial record of the various activities of our school life. These pages will bring many a happy memory in the years to come. In our remembrance of things past, let us not forget the things that lie ahead. Ours is a young, vigorous, democratic country which is always looking forward to progress. When we do nothing but look backward to past pleasures and triumphs, we stand still . . . we do not progress. It is good to pause and look back from time to time, but do not forget to also look forward to the new experiences, new pleasures, new triumphs and fulfillments that the future holds in store for you. RUSSELL PURSELL Principal The Year Book staff is to be commended for a job well done as evidenced by this annual. Realiz- ing the work and time that has gone into such a project, we let them know that the time and energy spent has been appreciated. This is a record of people and experiences that will bring to mind in the future those things of the past that meant so much to those involved. The things that seemed so very important at the time will be dimmed by new experiences, which in an adult world will have new meanings and im- portance. Often youth misplaces its sense of values and through development and growth the school hopes to develop in them a true sense of values and high ideals so that the citizens of our country will always be of the highest type. Take this book, cherish itg for it is a record of people and events that in time to come will be Moments to Remember. i LOREN JOHNSON SCHOOL BOARD-Mr. Erwin Wendt, memberg Superintendent Russell Pursellg.Mr. Jack Steele, vice presidentg Mr. Eldin Baker, clerkg Mr. Monroe Darragh, memberg and Mr. Bill Pierson, president. 31 RECOGNITION --- ' !' We have so many wonderful years in high school to look back on. We have enjoyed our association with our class sponsors, Mrs. Buswell and Mr. Harmon, who have always been there to help us when we needed them. The highlight of our first semester was Homecoming Day when we presented our lovely class queen, Jeannie Springer, on our float using the theme, Red Sails in the Sun- set. We won third place on our float and first place on our skit which was based on Steve Allen's Man on the Street. This year our class was well-represented in Royalty Norina Castine was selected FFA queen and Henry Senn was FHA kingg Melvina Christy was Pep Club queeng and Veta Reiswig was crowned football queen during the half-time of the Homecoming Game. We shall remember the fun provided by giving our senior play and going on our senior Who Me? trip. It was the last outing which we enjoyed together as a class. The girls will always remember the Senior Girls Tea and the won- derful time they had. Last, but certainly not least, was the shining moment when each of us marched across the stage in his cap and gown to receive his diploma. Some of us were slightly sad in knowing that with this moment our career as high school students was ending and that we were turning another page in the Book of Life. Our Heroes! ! ! Homecoming Day was the highlight of our first semester. Our class was represented in the festivities by a very unique and original float with the theme Plow 'Em Under which expressed our spirit concerning the Homecoming game. J anell Burnett, our lovely queen, graced our float in the parade. Our play, Wild About Harry was also very successful. We feel that we have done many things this term which we will remember in years to come. Football The 1957 Yellow Jackets, although handicapped by lack of experience and a midseason flu epidemic, finished the season with an even .500 percentage, 4-4-2, and 3rd place in district standing. Due to the fact that few Seniors were present on the starting eleven nobody was placed on the first All-District team. Don Miller and Gerry Borelli were se- lected to the second team at quarterback and center respectively. The Jackets opened their season at home against Bethany, downing the Bronchos 12-7. Clyde Buchanan set up the first score by hauling in a pass on the five yard line. On the ensuing play Don Miller fell on a fumble in the end zone for the score. Jerry Stewart scored the winning touchdown from three yards out. Playing in a drizzling rain, the Yel- low Jackets fumbled their way to an 18-18 tie with Yukon the following week. Trailing 12-18 late in the final period, the Jackets lost the ball on fumbles twice inside the Yukon five yard line before finally pushing across the tieing score. Kingfisher traveled to Cordell the next week for their first District 3-B game. Jerry Linton scored four times and Larry McIntosh added another as Kingfisher brought home a 34-12 vic- tory. The Carnegie Wildcats furnished the Jackets with stiff opposition in the Homecoming game It proved to be a real thriller as Kingfisher staved off a last minute Carnegie drive for another 3-B victory, 25-22. Linton again scored four touchdowns. Veta Reiswig was crowned football queen at the halftime performance by Captain Don Miller. The following week Kingfisher trav- eled to Crescent to take on the state's third rated class C team. McIntosh led the Kingfisher offense, but neither team scored as it ended 0-0. On the next Friday a flu-riddled Kingfisher squad traveled to Fairview. With Junior High players filling in at several positions, the Jackets lost their first game of the season, 61-7. The Geary Bisons came to King- fisher the next week and again the flu showed its effect as the Bisons took home a 25-7, 3-B victory. Jerry Stewart counted Kingfisher's lone touchdown on a 61 yard dash. The Yellow Jackets found their win- ning ways again the next week as they downed the Hinton Comets 33-20 in a seesaw battle. Linton scored first on a 56 yard sleeper play and later on a 70 yard punt return. Miller returned a kickoff 80 yards for a score and hit Linton with a 53 yard scoring pass. Stewart added the other tally on a 3 yard plunge. The big game with arch-rival, Wa- tonga, was next for the Yellow Jackets. The Eagles proved too much for the Jackets as they completely outplayed them for a 39-6 Watonga victory. La- verne Buffalomeat counted Kingfisher's lone tally from 1 yard out. Kingfisher played host to Weather- ford the next week, an undefeated powerhouse rated third in class B. The Jackets played what most con- sidered a good game in spite of the score, 12-40. Linton scored Kingfisher's first touchdown on a 20 yard sprint, and Nolan Banks added a second on a One yard plunge. So the season ended, but with only a. few graduating Seniors the outlook is for a really successful year next fall. Four of our fellow classmen were accepted in the High School Band and a number of our classmates were members of our county 4-H Club. We were proud of these members of our class and we know that they will add to these organizations and will be helped by them. Autographs ?M,.fff!fM.,z4, fm fyffwfd KM gfwffw ' 1 With the pages turned, with memories refreshed, you have come to the end of the 1958 Yellow Jacket. In this book, the yearbook staff and sponsor have tried to preserve 'Mo- ments to Remember' for you and our school. It is realized that many wonderful moments are not recorded in the Yellow Jacket. Many things happened that no camera recorded and those moments are recorded only in the minds of those who were present. May the moments which are recorded here en- rich your life forever. Seldom does the sponsor of a yearbook have the privilege of writing an article which can be called his own. I wish to thank the business staff and the editoral staff for this privilege. As sponsor, I wishto express my appreciation to the stu- dents, who have worked diligently, the board of education, who has given its permissiong the business men, who have contributed money, the superintendent, principals, teachers, and others, who have given assistance and cooperation in making this year book possible. I realize that errors have been made in our yearbook but he, who makes no errors, does not live. It's wonderful to be alive! As time comes and goes, may I suggest that you look to- ward the future and try to see what it holds for you. Life can be sweet. Life can be bitter. You and you alone can choose the road that you will take.
