VOCAL DEPARTMENT The fie lie cff the We At ARGUS DICKERSON The Vocal Department’s third year proved to be a busy one. The boys’ quartette and girls’ trio were kept in good practice by singing at club meetings, banquets, and celebra- tions. Some of the highlights of their year were entertaining for the Chamber of Commerce Banquet, the F.F.A. Bi-County Meeting, Altrua Study Club, and the Christmas Band Concert. At Christmas, Miss Dickerson presented her Junior High music classes in a Christmas Concert. The various classes were combined to form a massed choir. Smaller select numbers were presented from each class. About 115 students par- ticipated in this program. During the spring, soloists, trios, quartettes and the ac- companists were kept busy going to county, district, and state contests. In the spring of ’51 vocal students put over the operetta “The Belle of the West” in grand style. The cast along with the audience had the time of their lives. In July, 1951, the F.F.A. boys enjoyed a trip to Lost Lake, a beautiful camping spot on a wild life refuge near Lawton. In August we started attending Local, State and National livestock shows for the fall of 1951. We were the 2nd place prize money winning chapter at both the Tulsa and Oklahoma State Fairs. January 10th, we started attending the spring livestock shows. We sent Norman Hale and Fred Walta to Denver, Colorado. Norman won two 4th prize ribbons, and 3rd on a pen of three. Fred won 2nd on his Southdown lamb. January 26th we sent two boys to Houston, Texas, Norman Hale and Floyd Cross. Norman won 1st on his pen of Shropshires and Floyd won 2nd Hampshire lamb. Now we are ready to compete against all other chapters at the County Fair, Enid, and Oklahoma City. Front Row—left to right: John K. The F.H.A. got off to an early start this year by attending a district planning conference before school started. Planning conferences were held at home, too. In planning the programs the eight purposes were used in as many ways as possible. F.H.A. girls prepared a booth at the county fair and exhibited a window display during F.H.A. week. They enacted a skit at the district rally, and also presented a school assembly. The annual F.F.A.-F.H.A. dance was a ;'g l'ccess- rhe «roup has had many outstanding programs and a lot of fun (especially initiat- ing the new candidates) this year and the group is anticipating a fuller agenda next year. ClaM Qzma £eh icrA HOMER HARMON' Sponsor ENID BUSWELL Sponsor We of the senior class are very proud of our accomplishments this year and years gone by in Kingfisher High School. We sponsored a pancake supper and carried on the paper drive the first semester of this year, both of which netted us a good sum for the treasury. Led by our sponsors. Mrs. Buswell and Mr. Harmon, we are well represented in all the departments and activities of the school. Our president, Bill Maxon, and other class officers have contributed much to the success of our final year. We have had several outstanding honors bestowed on the members of our class, proving that what we lack in quantity we make up in quality. We are proud of John Sain who was selected for the All-State Football Team. The Senior Class has enjoyed its years in K.H.S. and regrets that they must now bid her a fond adieu. CARL BOOKS JOAN STEHNO Sponsor Sponsor Our junior year, beginning with election of class officers and ending with the Junior-Senior Banquet, has been very successful. Most of our time was spent making money except for the few weeks that were spent studying drama in preparation for our play, Our Miss Brooks,” which was a great success. By sponsoring the concession stand at basketball and football games we were able to make over $500. The highlights of the year were ordering the long awaited class ring, presenting our play, and giving the annual Junior-Senior Banquet. Many thanks to our sponsors, Mr. Books and Miss Stehno, for helping us through our most profitable year. This year we have the honor of having the first Junior High girls basketball team in several years. We point with pride to our boys basketball team; their record at this time is twelve games played and eleven games won. We also have several Freshmen giris on the Senior High girls’ team. Greta Boyd and Opie Bandy were voted the year's most popular girl and boy in tho Junior High, both from the Freshman Class. The Yellow Jackets’ defense looked better, they completed all pass attempts, and scored on long runs. On September 28, Kingfisher easily defeated the Okeene Whippets at Okeene, by a 19-0 margin. Then Edmond, one of the top class A teams in the state, came here and ground out a 38-6 victory in the mud. Edmond used many long end runs, with lots of blocking. The following Friday, Kingfisher was host to Pawnee, a well-balanced squad with a varied attack, Pawnee won 27-0. Kingfisher’s Homecoming game was October 19 with Yukon. The team elected John Sain, captain, and Bill Gooden and Bill Miller, co-captains. The Yellow Jacket defense held the visitors scoreless and nearly yardless, while the Kingfisher offense rolled up 46 points in the rout. The Jackets’ defense was strong when they journeyed to Crescent. The two teams made several goal-line stands, but the Jackets prevailed 13-7. An inspired Kingfisher team, playing on freezing mud, de- feated favored Geary here on November 2 by a 26-13 score. At Watonga the following week, the Eagles won 39-7. Kingfisher was seeking its first win over Watonga in 10 years. The season closed here with an exciting 12-12 draw between Kingfisher and Weatherford, the team which represented 3B in the playoffs. The two teams each had six penetrations and seven first downs, and Kingfisher led in yardage. Kingfisher placed two boys on the All-District team, John Sain and Bill Gooden. The team was also honored by the selection of their captain. John Sain for the All-State team. Burl Bartlett came here from Ada to coach this year’s team.
