Senuor Report As Senuors the class of 1959 have been very busy completung theur last year hugh school Once back to school un Sep tember we held a class meetung to elect our officers We chose to reelect those who had served the prevuous year Our flrst bug undertakung was the faur booth at North New Portland Besudes havung to move the booth baclf from the roadway we added seats around the sudes of the booth and buult new shelves unsude We organuzed our commuttees and can vassed the town for food A large profit was realuzed from thus and we would luke gracuously to thank all the townspeople who helped un makung thus a flnancual suc cess Next we began work on our senuor play whuch had already been chosen Here Comes Charlue Thus was a comedy play wuth hullbully hugh socuety and modern everyday characters Everyone un our class partucupated un ut by beung a character un ut or by beung a property manager It was an extra long play especually for a hugh school prolect but under the coach ung of Mrs Chadbourne and wuth the wull ungness of the whole class ut came off successfully guvung our treasury a boost We were already engaged un varuous actuvutues un the hugh school program We are proud to say that we had one or more persons from our class un every actuvuty conducted by our hugh school The co cur rucular actuvutues uncluded magazune druve druver educatuon publuc speakung gurls chorus band yearbook, newspaper sku school all events durung the Wunter Car nuval basketball baseball and even cross country and track Our class has proved to be an ambutuous one un sellung magazunes for the Magazune Campaugn held every fall For each of our four years we have won a ten dollar pruze for sellung the most as a class and Dorothy Luce has been the hugh unduvudual sales PAGE EIGHT man Clunton Knapp has been among the hugh four for the last two years Other actuvutues we have engaged un to add money to our treasury were the food booth at basketball games varuous food sales and record hops wuth hula hoop and pue eatung contests for everyone to enloy Thus year for the flrst tume a Betty Crocker test was guven to all the senuor gurls Thus was a test on general home makung and home management Vurgunua Hargreaves receuved the honor of wunnung and her test wull be entered wuth others un the state contest We all want to congratu late her and wush her luck wuth her entry As the school year progressed a man from the U S Securuty Commussuon Skowhegan came and gave the Senuors varuous aptutude tests to see what voca tuons we are best suuted for A few weeks later two representatuves came to unter vuew each one of us separately on our vo catuonal abulutues and what occupatuons we mught do best un We are now un the process of plannung our senuor class trup We are takung the sux day tour wuth Green Tours wuth an extra day un New York Cuty Mr and Mrs Ches ley Punkham wull accompany us thus year Some of the places of unterest we untend to see are Raduo Cuty Musuc Hall Inde pendence Hall Valley Forge Sky Lune Cav erns Mount Vernon the Washungton and Luncoln Memoruals Arlungton Cemetery and the U S Caputal Upon returnung from our class trup w wull begun on our graduatuon plans We feel that we have been very actuve un the undertakungs of Kungfleld Hugh School thus year and want to wush the Senuors of the future as much enloyment as we have had We would also luke to thank the towns people and the faculty of Kungfleld Hugh School for the help they have guven us un our hugh school years O , . ln , 1 ' 1 ' 1 ' 1 1 1 ' 1 , . . Class of 1960 REBECCA H ORN DAVID W I LLIAMSON KIRTLEY WOODCOCK HUB E RT NORTON M A XINE LUCE SAND R A NORTON JOS E PH HUTCHINS J EAN OLIVER EVANGELINE CHADB O URNE ROSWE LL CROCKER VERNA PHI L BRICK DAVID BO Y NTON J OYCE LOVEJOY ARTH U R THOMPSON DO N ALD HAMLIN CEC I L LEEMAN MELD O N GILMORE MIRIAM REID RO S ETTA PINKHAM On September 3 T958 twenty Junuors returned to Kungfleld Hugh School Before In the annual Magazune Campaugn Donald Hamlun was assustant manager for the first semester was over we lost one student Lendell Chase makung our class membershup nuneteen At our flrst class meetung we chose the followung oftlcers Presudent Meldon Gulmore Vuce President Verna Phulbruck Secretary Davud Boynton Treasurer Jean Oluver Student Councul Representatuve Rebecca Horn Shortly after hus electuon Davud Boynton resugned hus office and Evangelune Chad had enrolled un the Druver Educatuon class whuch met every actuvuty peruod and prevented hum from attendung any class meetung held at that tume Our class actuvutues have been few We catered to the auctuon at the late Mabel Caswells on October II and I8 T958 On November 7 T958 we had a Hunters Ball In December we had a fudge sale and a record hop Durung our February vacatuon we are consuderung beung sponsors to a record hop furnushung entertaunment for ourselves and for the skuers un the races on Sugarloaf In the sprung we hope to hold the annual Junuor Prom and we wull put on the Commencement Dance the school and Verna Phulbruck and Cecul Leeman were the captauns respectuvely for the uunuor gurls and boys Several members of the uunuor class were un basketball On the gurls team were Evangelune Chadbourne Maxune Luce and Verna Phulbruck Sandra Norton was the gurls manager On the boys team were Cecul Leeman Hubert Norton and Davud Wulluamson Last fall Donald Hamlun Cecul Leeman Hubert Norton and Davud Wulluamson ran cross country Meldon Gulmore Joseph Hutchuns Cecul Leeman and Davud Wulluam Thus wunter Evangelune Chadbourne Maxune Luce and Davud Boynton are tak ung lessons Monday afternoons on Sugar loaf Mt Davud has also taken part un two sku meets Several uunuor gurls have been practucung wuth Mrs Wung and Mrs Lander un the Gurls Chorus They unclude Evangelune Chadbourne Rebecca Horn Sandra Nor ton Verna Phulbruck and Muruam Reud The uunuor class has been represented un the band under the unstructuon of Mr Flagg of Strong by two members Jean Oluver and her saxophone and Davud Boynton and hus trumpet 1 I l l ' I I . . .
