Freshmen, On October 22, the tearn went to Wilton to run in the County Meet, They succeeded in bunching enough of their runners among the early finishers so that they won the meet, Because of this they brought' home the cup showing they are County Champions, In addition, Russell, Austin, and Gene each received individual medals for placing first, fifth, and sixth, respectively, On November 4, Mr, Graham, the squad, and the manager, Eugene Wing, traveled to Orono to participate in the State Meet, Although the competition was very keen, Kingfield finished in seventh place, and ahead of some schools much larger than ours, Because our star runner, Russell Riggs, came in second of all partici- pants, he received an individual medal, This meet brought to a close a very successful season in Cross Country, During all these weeks the basketball boys were working at their running and, as the season approached, they went into the hall to practice, The season opened officially on the evening of November 23, with the Round Robin games played here in Webster Hall, The squad lost a few men before the close of the season, The junior Varsity players included Richard McLaughlin '49, Gene Boyce '50, james McLaughlin '50, Russell Riggs '50, Garnald Hewey '51, Emerson Barron '52, Leo Boyce '52, Hedley Reid '52, Odlin Thompson '52, Richard Trenholm '52, and Robert Tufts '52, The ten on the Varsity Team, who represented us in all the tournament games were Howard Dunham '49, Eugene Wing '49, john Winter '49, Lewis Brackley '50, Wendell Dunham '50, Burchell Morrell '50, Austin Thompson '50, Robert Niemi '5l, Martin Sillanpaa '51, and Edgar Vose '52, These boys were champions in the Franklin County Small Schools League, won Consolation at the Franklin County Tournament in Farmington, and were winners of the Western Maine Small School Tournament in Lewiston, They lost a fast, but hard-fought game to Schenck High School of Millinocket, thereby losing the opport- unity to be champions of all Maine Small Schools, Because the boys were champions in their own league, on March 10, they played their final game at Phillips against the team composed of the two All Star players from other tear'-s in the league, Two of their own members, although they played with their team mates, were named All Stars, They were Howard Dunham '49, and Lewis Brackley '50, The following is a schedule of the gaxnes played by the Varsity along with their scores, Home games are starred: Kingfield Farmington Kingfield Stratton '9'Kingfield Jay Kingfield Phillips '9'Kingfield North Anson 'Kingfield Phillips Kingfield Jay Kingfield Mexico 'Kingfield Rangeley 'Kingfield New Sharon '0'Kingfie1d Town Team Kingfield New Sharon Kingfield Mexico Kingfield North A118011 'Kingfie1d Strong Kingfield Rangeley Kingfield Strong Kingfield Kents Hill 4'Kingfie1d 57 Stratton 30 The games and scores in the Tournament in Farmington were as follows: Kingfield 23 Rangeley 26 Kingfield 80 Stratton 34 Kingfield 48 Strong 47 This is the third consecutive year that Kingfield has been invited to the Western Main Tournament, Class S, at Lewiston, The team played against the following schools: Kingfield 37 North Berwick 36 Kingfield 52 Wiscasset 42 V Kingfield 74 New Gloucester 33 Because the boys won these games, they brought home with them a cup with the following engraving: 26
