THE SCHOOL CALENDAR Week of September 6, 1948 September 6---School started right off with a holiday, This pleased everyone, September 7---We were all glad to enter Kingfield High, to register, and to have classes in the forenoon, We were also pleased to welcome back for another year the three teachers, However, we did miss several students, under- classmen as well as the graduates of last year, The teachers went to Phillips to attend a meeting at 4:00 P, M, September B---A full day with classes, The Seniors chose class officers and a chairman for the food booth for the World's Fair, September 9---The other classes organized for the coming year, Septernber 10---The Seniors finished planning the food booth for fair, Week of September 13 September 13---Hurry: Hurryf Cast your ballot for the electionsf The Kingfield baseball team started off right by winning the first game of the fall against Strong, September 15---We were victors in a game played with Rangeley, Week of September Z0 September 2.0---All classes met individually, Activity Period, to take care of business, September Z1---Another victory over Rangeley, The score was twenty- two to one, September 22---Farmington Fair, at last: Our first real holiday, I hope we have many more, September Z4---We became victors in another ball game which our boys played at Phillips. September Z5---Saturday, It's also the day of New Portland Fair, The Seniors hope to make a big profit on their booth, Many of the underclassmen are helping them, Week of September 27 September Z7---All Cross Country and Basketball boys met with their coach, Mr, Graham, October 1---Rain, today, Also, Freshman Initiation, Poor Freshmen: They really are having a hard day, A Cross Country meet, today, with Kingfield, Stratton, and Rangeley participating, It was held here in Kingfield, I hope the boys liked running in the rain, Week of October 4 October 4--We listened to the Boston and Cleveland play-off this afternoon, Most of us enjoyed the game, October 8---A Cross Country meet was held at Rangeley this after- noon, Kingfield, Phillips, Rangeley, Stratton and Strong took part, finished in that order Week of October 11 October 12 ---The Cross Country team went to Bates College, Lewiston, A very interesting movie was shown to the high school on Safety First by a State Police Officer, October 13---We started our first six weeks exams today, The junior Class met with an agent from the Balfour Company to pick their class rings, The Seniors met with him, also, to choose their invitations and name cards, October 14---At last, we have finished our exams, Hope we will pass, 18

October 15---The Seniors shocked the whole school when they arrived to have their pictures taken by The Warren Kay Vantine Studio, lnc,, Boston, A variety social was held tonight for the benefit of the Student Council, Week of October 18 October 18---We got our rank cards today and, by the looks on the faces, I guess everybody passed, October 19---The Senior proofs got back today, They were so good that most of us were pleased, Special Announcement: Faye Hewey has become en- gaged, Who is the lucky fellow? October Z1---Mrs, Chadbourne sent for the books for the play Swept Clean Off Her Feet , lt will be presented on the evening of the Carnival, October ZZ---Another Variety Social was held for the benefit of the Student Council, The County Cross Country meet was held in Wilton today, We won the cup, a fact which makes us county champsff Week of October Z5 October Z6---Although, it is only Tuesday, this is the night of the Halloween Ball, Music by Brackley's orchestra, I hope we make a profit, An agent from the Vantine Studio took the Senior orders today, October Z7---Teachers' Convention, at lastf Happy holidays, Week of November l November 1---We had tryouts for the Carnival Play, Hurrah for the Freshman boys: They are interested in dramatics, November 2---Mr, Green was here to speak to the Senior Class President about our trip to Washington, Where is Mr, Clunie ? Mrs, Knapp is substituting today, Henry Carey, from Marlborough, Massachusetts has transferred to Kingfield High, Photographers from Alston Studios took individual pictures of the whole school and some of the teachers, Everything happens to us, November 4---The State Cross Country Meet was held today, Although Kingfield placed seventh, Russell Riggs brought home a medal for coming in second, The Student Council chose committees for the carnival, November 5---The Seniors held a dance tonight, with Alfred Pillman furnishing the music, Week of November 8 November 8---Today the teachers met with Mr, Dann to form a plan to add music to our curriculum, November 9---Only one session today, We had a night session to pay for the afternoon off, Quite a large crowd attended in the evening, November 10---Today the high school met with Mr, Dann for music during Activity Period, November ll---Another day in which to rest, November 12---The Seniors held another social this evening in order to earn money for their class trip, Week of November l5 November 17---The Alston pictures came back today, We were very happy because they came out well, Another joyful day of singing with Mr, Dann, We certainly appreciate what he is doing for the school, November 18---Dr, Dunlap came today to check up on our health, November 19---Only one se sion today, Carnival in the afternoon and the Play and Beano in the evening, We made a profit of SZ59,6Z, Week of November ZZ November Z2---Another day with Dr, Dunlap, He came to test our eyes,
