IU IOR LEAGUE FOUTBALL 1956 For the first time in many years. the ,lunior League team. consisting of boys from the fifth. sixth. and seventh grades. finished the season with more set- backs than victories. Their record of one win against two losses was not to impressive. but the foundation has been laid for future contenders for league honors. The nuelells of the team consisted of mainly sixth graders. along with the added talents of a few fifth and seventh grade boys. The Colonial Roadcrs met Harvey on the King grid- iron or their first game. King played an excellent offensive and defensive game, never yielding an inch to their foes from Harvey. Chuck Yergara and George Smith were thc touchdown makers as King defeated Harvey by the score of 14-0. ,lohn Kellogg. Fred Utter- bein, and George Reese were outstanding on the de- fensive line. In a return match at the Harvey School. the Kings- mcn met with stiffer opposition as they suffered their first loss in a thrilling T-6 contest. The home team played marvelous defensively, stopping the King eleven several. times deep in Harvey territory. The final game was played at Greenwich Country Day. Here the Kingsmen were met by a team which completely outsized and outclassed them. as they were handed their second defeat 27-0. The Maroon and White played a spirited game. considering the handi- cap they were playing under, and for the first time in many games were unable to cross the goal line of the opposition.
