THE FIRST STRING LINEUP Capt. Clark Varnum Francis Colegrove Fred Willis Vincent Rinella Bob Reynolds Abbot Schwebel VARSITY FOOTBALL 1957 The King School Varsity's second year in the Tri-County Six-Man Football league was decidedly more profitable than the first, as the Kingsmen supported a record of four wins and one loss, gaining for them a second place position in League standings. Their record is even more outstanding when it is revealed that the team consisted of only eight membrs. Captain Clark Varnum, last year's captain, Fred Willis, and Francis Colegrove were the backfield players. Abbot Schwebel, Cordon Dancy, Kevin Foster, Vincent Rinella, Bob Reynolds, and Stanley Rothenberg rotated the line positions to give the Colonial Roaders a hard charging line. As in previous years, Mr. Ulson served as coach. The Kingsmen opened their second season with a home game against the Roosevelt team. Last year the Roosevelt Six defeated the Kingsmen and revenge was sought. King won the toss and elected to receive, moving the ball to the King 30 on the kickoff. After successive gains of ten yards apiece, Clark Varnum skirted end and registered the first TD. a couple of minutes later a 40 yard pass play from Varnum to Fred Willis raised the score to 13-0. As the first quarter came to an end, Willis dashed 35 yards around end after a Roosevelt score, leav- ing the score 19-6. The Kingsmen's line opened some beautiful holes in the second period with Varnum and Willis scoring within a matter of a few plays. Near the end of the half, Willis registered his fourth touchdown of the game as he sprinted 55 yards to the score, leaving the score 38 to 6 at halftime. ln the second half the Blue and White struck back and tallied three touchdowns while holding
