Lawrence, M. Nisel, M. Crawford, C. Tumavicus, S. Pel- letier. . C1355 In September of '75 the doors of King Philip High opened wide to one of the greatest classes to ever pass through its doors - the Class of '78. Although half of the class was at the Junior High, under the direction of our newly elected class officers, Pres.- S. Underhill, V. Pres.- M. Crawford, Treas.- M. Scholtes, Sec.- S. Elliot, the work, got done. Our freshman float with the theme We'll shoot the Rockets back to North didn't get us first place but in the years to follow our leadership showed. With the help of our class advisor Mrs. Cindy Sussan, our spaghetti supper, Springfling , and Semi-formal were all great successes. Following the summer of '76 the class entered as a whole into the newly additioned high school. After old friend- ships were re-united and new friendships were made , the class officers, Pres.- M. Crawford, V. Pres.- M. Scholtes, Sec.- P. Jaworski, Treas.- R. Geromini, Mrs. Sussan and the class council put forward their best effort to make our sophomore year as best as possible. The first major event of our sophomore year was our float, the theme Stoughton Knights will show their flaws and get caught in K.P. Jaws won us a near first place. Our sophomore year was our most profitable year. We held such events as: flea marketfcar wash, Chicken BBQ, gym nights, candy sales, Valen- tine's Day Dance, and our Semi-formal. All were great fun, and again it was time for another summer vacation. When the school doors opened again in September things were different, we were upper classmen now and mighty proud of it. The class officers for our junior year were as follows: Pres.- M. Crawford, V. Pres.- R. Geromini, Treas.- T. Hartley, Sec.- J. Clarke. With the help of them and many others the class had a very successful year. If there was one saying that got used it was beat the Seniors , and that's just what we did. To start off the year we participated in a few pep-ralleys. We blew the doors off the other classes with our Juniors never staggerf' Soon again it was homecoming time. Our slogan for the float was O.A. will fight to no avail: K.P. will hang'em by the tail. Good Ol Amos won us first place. Mrs. Sussan, Mr. Besaw and Miss Hansen made fine advisors. Our pizza bakes, candy sales and pancake breakfast brought in a large sum of money with few fatalities. Our ten or so Rock-a-thon partici- pants rocked ten hours for alot of laughs, sunburns and about one-hundred dollars. Competition night was held by student council on lf77. It was alot of fun with races like a ball toss, sneaker race, wheel barrel race and a tug of war. isa is . img iii fofg And of course you know which class won all but 2 CU races! When the end of the year came rollin' in the Junior- Senior Prom Could It Be Magic was held at the Blue Hills Country Club on May 12, 1977, it was a great time for all. The last event of our junior yearwas our Pot-Luck Supper in which each person was asked to bring some food for admission. Music was played, joke gifts were passed out and everybody had a good time. May-was the Seniors last day of school and on June 3rd they all graduated. What a feeling it was walking down the hallway knowning that in 12 months you'd be doing the same thing. Finally our junior year ended and every junior went home for their last summer high school vacation. On September 8, 1977 the doors of King Philip High opened their doors one last time for the class of '78. The officers elected to head our Senior year were: Pres.- M. Crawford, V. Pres.- R. Geromini, Treas.- T. Hartley, Sec.- J. Clarke, Mrs. Sussan, Mr. Bertiletti and Miss Hansen were our class advisors and a class council consisting of about 25 members all worked hard to make our Senior year at King Philip the best ever. Homecoming was held on October 9th this year. This year's first place theme was K.P. Warriors will chase the Foxes back to their borroughf' After homecoming the class got right down to business starting off with a candy sale, gym nights and suppers of all kinds. Our Senior Superlatives, class trip, donkey basketball game and Senior Prom were highlights of the best year we have ever spent at King Philip Regional High School. And so the activities and events of the class of '78 are brought up to date. Soon each member of the class will go his or her own seperate way and the doors of King Philip High will close and each of us will take with us the memories and friendships that we'll remember for the rest of our lives. by Nadine O'Connell I 4 , ig - -1 4 Se nine Q CLASS CHAUVANIST: Gary Sweed MOST LIBERATED: Eileen Anderson BEST PERSONALITY: Laffy LaP0if11C MOST SCHOLARLY: Diane Brown Jim Thibeau MOST TYPICAL: Janice Pothier David Hoyle Debbie Hokanson 7 X l N f X x -Q ff f f x N 511132 Iflafilf CLASS COUPLE: Dave MCEIWCC CLASS CLOWNS: Diane Doherty Ralph Guisti Nan Plummer CLASS FLIRTS: Carlton Dean Pam Jaworski MOST ARTISTIC Scott Stockwell Bonnie Clive MOST POPULAR: Bob Geromini Diane Brown ,..- k 12 48 CLASS OPTIMIST Denise Workman John Rose Kim Armstrong if ull l MOST MUSICAL: Steve Galvin Cnot shownj Linda McKracken MOST CHANGED: Tom Rapoza I l Donna Theriault QdldCiS CLASS SHYEST: Mark Scholtes Linda Cook Knot shownl MOST SCATTER-BRAINED: Ralph Guisti Martha Kelly Shawn Hartley fnot Shownj Li.: CLASS SPIRIT: John Rose Nadine O'Connell MOST DEPENDABLE: John Rose Merri Crawford fnot shownj BEST LOOKING Davld Matthews Karen O Donnell 6 D BEST OVER ALL Mark Scholtes Duane Brown ' ALWAYS LATE Shawn and Trlsha Hartley 5 MOST TALKATIVE Bob Geromrm Kathy Cor. Alter, a teaching institution here at K.P. since 1963, will be leaving us forever at the end of this year due to lack of intelli- gence in today's established bureau- cracy which fails to recognize the irretrievable talents of the individual while concerning itself exclusively with dates, figures, and statistics. As a teacher, Mrs. Alter is as knowledgable and as talented in the field of literature as any instructor who has ever stood before a class at K.P. As a person, she is kind and compassionate Ithough she may also be strict and demandingj. For 15 yrs. she has given all of herself to her students, for to her there is nothing more important than to im- part knowledge and to cultivate un- tapped creativity. For this she is to be praised and thanked, for the number of people she has helped to discover the true scope of their capabilities is immeasurable. I speak for many students, both past and present, when I thank her for enriching our lives, wish her luck and many, many more fruitful years, and tell her how much she will be missed. Thank you, Mrs. Alter. ,,..i A FEW DANCING WORDS. . . But how can I write in December what I would like to say in June?fAnd the more impossible it would be for a few dancing words to describef The madcap, rushing, dancing years that have been my portion here-fEver since the bright Sep- tember morn in ,63 when I started teaching English under Warren G. Pressley and Walter White. What can I say that would stay fresh as dew? Why, I will greet you as I leave.fJust as I always do my students at the start of every day-so, Good Morning! For this is truly the wayfl look at my life: I clamber up the hills of day until I reach the quiet evening gatefEver pressing on for what new promises await with the unfolding of each day. So. . .hello, all my students and fellow teachers! Isn't it a beautiful day!fI say this, too, to the Administrators--old and new. I've loved teaching herefWhat a privilege and a dear and infinite joy, for I relish and welcomefExchanging my thoughts with those long, long thoughts of every girl and boy, For time, like an hour glass, pours its sands out fast--and I believe I've seen my studentsf Actually grow right before me! At least I know I have immeasurably grown in their company. . .X Because, you see, they have also been my teachers! Good morning to all I have taught and worked besidefOn this glorious, sometimes roller-coaster ride in my Rm. 1l8! There's a bright sheenfAbout that room: It's touched by thoughts of youth who read and write and wonder and struggle. ..fSeeking truth. So once again, Good Morning as I retire, come June, and begin a whole new dayfOf my own. Gladly I came and gladly fand sadlyj shall I take my way wherever the Lord prepares one for me: fBut part of me will always stay in this place, for here I ran with hundreds of bright young minds the racefOf life-to strive-to test-to search-to reach- to struggle-and finally to knowfThat life is worth the effort and that life is good!f Good Morning, then again I say. Have a beautiful day! I love you all! -Eleanor Reed Alter 3 1 TO MRS. SUSSAN--WITH THANKS I'm not sure if there are words enough in the English language to fully convey the deep feelings of thanks and appreciation we have toward Mrs. Sussan. We, the Class of '78, owe her a debt that, unfortunately, we will never be able to fully repay. We could say that she has been an exceptional advisor, but that says little--of course she has been exceptional, but she has been more than that, much, much more. It would have been impossible to have found a more enthusiastic land, at times, thriftyj person for such an arduous, often exaspirating, job. She's always there, whether with brilliant ideas for class happenings or for raising money tof course, not every idea ended up making a bundle, but no- body can be perfect all the timej. It goes without saying that we are sorry she is leaving, but we are, also, and somehow it seems fitting. At the same time, ofcourse, we wish her the best of luck as she begins a family of her own land she thought teaching school was hardj. Still, there's something else, something more. . . You're one of the class, Mrs. Sussang you're a part of us, and though that may seem a dubious honor at times, you and I, and the rest of the class, know better. .-4 N if M ly s'+ 6' 4 Clio. l f f ' Qs , 1 0 - ., x ' .r , x5 Xi 155. . .- 252' , . imivks 5,1 ' L FIV! We are the worn floors and dusty blackboards, but we are also the smiling faces and shared laughter. We are thankful for our educations - not just from books and classrooms, but from our interactions with other people. We are sad in leaving the familiar faces, but we are eager to choose our own way of life. We know we are ready for this because we have seen through K.P. the many different ways to live. We have been taught by educators who devote their life to preparing us for adulthood. As editors of THE CI-IIEFTAIN, we four have been able to look at all the diverse characteristics of K.P. We have pulled together, in this yearbook, all the factors which make King Philip an ever-changing world all its own.
