King crushes Carroll 14-6 in district upset The Green Machine opened district play with a win over Robstown. The Mustangs beat the Cottonpickers 18- 12 to give them their third win in a row. The Mustangs made it four in a row when they downed Carroll 14-6 in a hard fought upset. King went into halftime behind by six points and finally got on the scoreboard early in the third quarter when quar- terback Bruce Haddad hit Dennis Polk on a 26-yard pass for the touch- down. Polk added the point after to make it King 7-Carroll 6. At the end of the third quarter, King put together a 90-yard drive to have Scott Miller score from the 3- yard line. Polk kicked the extra point to make it 14-6 King, in the fourth win in a row for the Mustangs.

The Mustangs had a field day against the Bccvillc Trojans, smash- ing them 54-6 to put King on top in district play. Bobby Monrcal led the scoring with two touchdowns. Other touch- downs were made by Scott Miller, Hank Ellsworth, Clay Peeples, Chet Freeman, and Dennis Polk. The defense was equally as tough, holding the Trojans to 29 yards rush- ing. The Green Machine obtained the fourth win of the season against the Moody Trojans beating them 37-25. The lead changing hands throughout the whole game made it a thriller until the final gun. Bruce Haddad led the offense with his accurate passing attack and Frank Casteneda led the defense with 12 tackJes. One week later, the Mighty Mus- tangs suffered their first loss to the Alice Coyotes, 17-7. The Mustangs controlled the ball the first half, but failed to produce in the second. King ' s first and only touchdown came in the second quarter, via a pass from Scott Miller to Dennis Polk. The King Mustangs bounced back the following week to beat the Miller Bucs, 17-0. The Green Machine racked up two touchdowns and a field goal to give them their first win for the season. The Mustangs rang up their last victory of the year against the Kings- ville Brahmas beating them 28-18. The Mustangs racked up four touch- downs and 1-2 point conversion.
