Campaign ' ' 72 brings Sargent Shriver to Corpus September started out with a bang due to the many activities centered around the football season. The first pep rally resulted in boosting school spirit to a 13-8 victory over San Anto- nio Holmes. Various school clubs began working together, electing offi- cers, and beginning projects. Amid the confusion of construction paper and candy. Senior Girls could be found preparing for the games. Stu- dent Council representatives and Sophomore and Junior Class officers were elected, class rings were ordered, and the Roy alettes made over $1,300 at their first money making project — a spaghetti supper. While some students sunned and surfed, others worked at campaign headquaners. Mr. Gerald Koch regis- tered 18-year-old voters and Sargent Shriver, Democratic vice presidential nominee, made a quick stop in Cor- pus. The month ended with the National Merit Examination Board commending ten King students and naming five semi-finalists, more than any other high school in the area.

Early start of school cuts summer short M With school beginning Aug. 24, summer ended sooner than usual and practices for the band, drill team, and football team began earlier. Adding to the confusion was the construction of Gollihar, which caused traffic jams, collisions, and tardies. Student Council President, Ginny Greene, took a trip to Yokosuka, Japan as part of the Sister City Exchange Program. Attending cheer- leading camp in Huntsville, the Mus- tang Cheerleaders returned with the Coca-Cola Award, the highest award possible at the camp. Two new and important faces seen around King were those of Mr. Graves, new assistant principal and Coach Allen, new head coach. 1- Rick Roll and Hector Cadena enjoy the last days of summer with a friend. 2. Hoping that summer practices will make fall performances perfect, Royalettes practice before the start of school. 3. Dennis Polk looks for a soft spot as his bareback horse pitches him off. 4. Band members begin practicing early for their upcoming performance at the Astrodome. 5. The first day of school is a joke to everyone especially Tom Hunt. 6. The last days of August find Susan Rose at Lake Mathis.

David Brown shows support for his party as Sargent Shriver, Demo- cratic vice presidential nominee, makes a quick stop in Corpus.
