The one and only genuine original mighty Mustang band The 1971-72 band of Richard King High School made several perform- ances this year. Outside of participat- ing In every football game perform- ance, they competed at several con- tests including their biggest perform- ance which came when the band went to the UIL marching contest on No- vember 20, 1971. Band students par- ticipated in the District Band competi- tion on December 4, where those who qualified went on to Region Band Competition December 18, and then on to state band competition February 10-12. Other contests included the UIL Solo and Ensemble contest March 4 and the UIL Concert Contest in April. Along with their participation in the Buccaneer Days Festival on April 28 and 29, the band made several other contributions to our school, such as giving a Christmas concert December 16 and a spring concert March 16, both of which were open to the public The students also sold tick- ets to the Mexican supper February 1 8 to help finance a band concert tour March 23-25. At the end of the year, the band students helped conduct graduation services May 29 to com- plete the year as the one and only genuine original mighty Mustang band. 82 organizations

Musical, one-act play scheduled for Thespians The King Thespian Society consists Of people interested In all aspects of dranna, from performing on stage to working on backstage crews To become a member, one must first amass one hundred hours of work in the dramatic arts from the time they are freshmen in high school to the present. The Thespians were led by Presi- dent Aaron Bazan. Vice President Karen Gabbard, and Secretary-Treasurer Rosie Perez For those interested in acting, but with less than the required one hundred hours of work, there is a second branch of the Thespians Society, the Mask and Wig. Lugene Selman, Carol Ann Bennett, and Suzanne Cranfill led this branch as presi- dent, vice president, and secretary, re- spectively Both branches joined together at the beginning of the year to put on A Ivlidsummer Night ' s Dream Other plans included a musical, one-act play, and a collection of original works by the King High School students, fy rs. Nicki Boynt sponsored both branches. a ' My love ' ' Thou art my love, I think? Aaron Bazan asks Ken Broerman as Ricky Kidd, Carol Ann Bennett.
