Math club finds solution to every problem The Math Club started the year off right planning many interesting activi- ties such as field trips and guest speakers. They have plans to go on a special trip to the IBM Building at NAS. New point system, new members for NHS Induction of new members and a re- vised point system for National Honor Society at the end of the 1970-71 school year began the club ' s activi- ties. Vocational clubs offer business experience The King chapter of Distributive Education Clubs of America, DECA, used several money making projects, selling candy and Christmas candles, to supply money for a trip to Houston in November, This trip included visits to various shopping centers and the industrial plant in Sugarland- A contest was held February 5 at Del Mar Col- lege with a panel of judges composed of local business and professional men. Officers for the club sponsored by Mr. S. D. Bassous were Melissa Majors, president: Kathy Thielhorn, vice president; Loyce Ladewig, secre- tary; Cathy Chesney, treasurer; Mi- chelle Scales, parliamentarian; and Pam Hoskins, reporter. Officers for the club sponsored by Mr. A. Huckabee were David Lemon, president; Lydia Crocker, vice president; Liz Hancock, secretary; Liz Deleon, treasurer; Ray Hurst, parliamentarian; and Beth Pha- ris, reporter. Vocational Industrial Clubs of Amer- ica, VICA, and the club for Industrial Cooperative Training, ICT, students at King also used money making proj- ects to finance club activities. Besides selling M M ' s, the club raffled a Schwin 10-speed bicycle with those selling seven books of tickets winning a trip to Houston in January. In No- vember, VICA attended a district meet- ing in Robstown and also donated a Christmas tree to the Corpus Christi State School. The Office Education Association, OEA, is the national club for King girls in VOE, Vocational Office Education, and VOE-lab. The girls made money for a trip to Austin in February to see the IBM plant by selling Adriane Showcase Christmas gifts. Immediate- ly before Christmas, on December 16, the club took a party and Christmas gifts to the Headstart Program at Rose Shaw Elementary School, In April OEA held an employers appreciation ban- quet for the girls and their employers. Officers of OEA for 1972 were Cissy Grahm, president; Judy Marshall, vice president; Gina Pinkerton, treasurer; and Vicki Boyls, historian, Mrs. Jo A. Cranford and Mrs, Billye O, Field sponsored the club. Those students in Coordinated Vo- cational Academic Education, CVAE, have two clubs. Toilers, sponsored by Mr, L, Lopez, and Marionettes, spon- sored by Mr. J, P, Benkendorfer, Toil- ers sold candy to finance educational trips to different industrial plants and a trip to a CVAE contest in Brownsville. Before Christmas on December 9, the Toilers held a banquet for the students and their employers at Floyds, The of- ficers for the Toilers were Thomas Marshall, president; Kennith Keene, vice president; Lynett Pickens, secre- tary; Richard Vigil, treasurer; James McDougal, reporter; and Laurel Col- lins, sergeanl-at-arms. The Marionettes sold candy and planned a car bash and a motorcycle race to raise money for their club. Members of Marionettes wrote two plays, one for puppets, Little Red Riding Hood and one for mario- nettes, The Lost Boy. The club is di- vided into those two parts, Puppets and Marionettes, Officers for the Mari- onettes were Brian Shackleford, presi- dent; Daryl Creasman, vice president; Laura Walston, secretary; Amanda Rumer, treasurer; and Gerry Leal, parliamentarian. 76 organizations
