Swim team captures honors across the state ( r I w a In conclusion of its third season the King swim team, led through the water with the guidance of Coach George Smith, ranked number one in the city league. The girls and boys rotated the use of the Ella Barnes swimming pool in their practices twice daily. The team toured south Texas com- peting in tournaments at San Antonio, Houston, and Corpus Christi. Individu- als received medals in swim meets. As the season moved on, swimmers took honors in the Regionals at San Antonio. Adrian Ridgeway set new re- gional records for the 200 yard and 300 yard freestyle. Pam Wright took second place in the 300 yard free- style. The relay team of Pam Wright, Adrian Ridgeway, and Carrol and Car- ron Hughes ranked third in the 400 yard freestyle relay. Adrian Ridgeway went to state breaking her time in the 300 yard free- style with the time of 3:09.3. Golfers tee off for a new season The King golf team had a very suc- cessful fall season. In the Corpus Christ! Fall Classic, King won second place in a field of 44 teams. Later at the San Antonio Golf Invitational, they captured first place in a field com- posed of the state ' s strongest teams. King retired the Hugh Rotating Trophy by winning the All City Golf Tourna- ment for the third year in a row. The J.V. team won over all of the other junior varsity teams in the All City J.V. Tournament. At the Browns- ville Invitational they finished second in a field of 28 teams. In the Spring season. King attended several tournaments and placed high in all of them.
