Ring out the old, bring in the new for a promising year of ' 72 Cold weather did not stop the fast action of the basketball team racing across courts to scale to the number seven position in the state. King was chosen as a model school in Texas, resulting from our Ef H and senior English program, AESOP. These programs were observed by visitors from all over the country. Flowers bloomed and the sun cast rays over the welcoming committee of the city P.T.A., which held its confer- ences in the school auditorium. The Royalettes and NJROTC ushered the guests IVIidterm tests upset the affairs of students, resulting in intense studying and plans for new schedules. A feeling of great relief was evident as the end of the tests grew near. Senior Paul Erb was cited for the writing of an article on sailboats pub- lished in the January 72 Yachting magazine. Paul launched a full scale drawing of an ideal boat for the Cor- pus Christi area. Driver Education students attended an assembly on good driving in the cafetorium Feb 7. IVIr. Swim team captures honors across the state ( r I w a In conclusion of its third season the King swim team, led through the water with the guidance of Coach George Smith, ranked number one in the city league. The girls and boys rotated the use of the Ella Barnes swimming pool in their practices twice daily. The team toured south Texas com- peting in tournaments at San Antonio, Houston, and Corpus Christi. Individu- als received medals in swim meets. As the season moved on, swimmers took honors in the Regionals at San Antonio. Adrian Ridgeway set new re- gional records for the 200 yard and 300 yard freestyle. Pam Wright took second place in the 300 yard free- style. The relay team of Pam Wright, Adrian Ridgeway, and Carrol and Car- ron Hughes ranked third in the 400 yard freestyle relay. Adrian Ridgeway went to state breaking her time in the 300 yard free- style with the time of 3:09.3.
