District win highlights spring baseball F»M]tA -= «al »«MtWWBl»i» ' ' in B i U tt. ii i A On May 20, 1971, the King Mustangs stopped the Carroll Tigers with a 3-2 win, giving the Mustangs the district championship with a rec- ord of 22 wins, seven losses, and one tie After securing the district title, the Mustangs went to Brownsville .for bi- district playoffs, where they lost the first game of the series. Those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer were spent In leisure through- out the season (or many people. Ac- tivities of all sorts employed students In vacation and summer jobs. But some school-minded students gave well-spent weeks In workshops and tournaments that took them across the country The debate team of Phillip Kurzner and Paul Gold went with NFL sponsor Mrs. Nancy DePuy to Stanford to enter the national foren- sic competition. Phillip won fifth in boys ' impromptu and together they debated five rounds out of eight which placed them In the top 25 in the na- tion. A week of yearbook and newspaper workshops was held at Trinity Univer- sity which ten students from these two departments attended Highlights of the workshop competition ended with Hoofbeat editor Jeff Kanipe winning an Award of Excellence and co-editor Sally Snider taking a rank of Superior. a.
