a. Lady Genny Howell Genny Howell ' s activities in the Spanish Club began her sophomore year and kept her busy through the last high school se- mester. She acted as service chairman of the club in ' 69-70. vice president in ' 70- ' 71 and president this year. In the Pan American Student Forum. Genny was dis- trict secretary her sophomore year and state convention delegate two years in a row She was selected for membership in Royalettes her lunior year and during the summer before her senior year Genny par- ticipated for eight weeks in the National Science Foundation summer enrichment program. Elected National Honor Society president this year, she also received a let- ter of commendation from the National Merit Foundation A Homecoming Queen nominee, Genny served as a teacher ' s aide at neighboring Meadowbrook Ele- mentary this year. b. Lady Suzy Hutchinson As editor of Pegasus this year it was Suzy Hutchinson ' s responsibility to keep King alumni informed Other duties that she assumed included membership on the superintendent ' s student advisory board her junior year and three years on the Stu- dent Council A Junior Class favorite run- ner-up. Suzy gained National Honor Socie- ty membership this year Serving in Na- tional Forensic League three years as trea- surer, historian and vice president, she reached the finals in debate at University Interscholastic League two consecutive years Suzy was recognized by the Nation- al Merit Foundation with a letter of com- mendation c. Lady Ann Speckles As a member of this year ' s Coronal staff, Ann Speckles was responsible for the faculty and honors sections, which earned her membership in Ouill and Scroll This year Ann was elected Student Council secretary. Homecoming Lady in Waiting, and favorite Her junior year Ann was also elected to the Student Council and repre- sented the class as favorite Her sopho- more year she was favorite runner-up, A two year drill team member, Ann was lieu- tenant this year Maintaining a high grade average, she was selected for membership in National Honor Society, d. Sir Phil Kurzner One of Phil Kurzner ' s outstanding achievements was reaching national com- petition in debate last year A National Merit Scholarship finalist, he was active in local National Forensic League functions for three years, Phil headed the sopho- more and junior branches of the Student Council as president A member of Nation- al Honor Society, he served on the student advisory board his sophomore year and went as King ' s delegate to Boys ' State in Austin the summer before his senior year.

1972 Court of Honor — eight royal members a. Lady Mary Burke That lamiljar voice making announce- ments this year was Mary Burke, who has a strong background in speaking, having won in debate competition five first places and third in state In addition to her Nation- al Forensic League activities. Mary was a three year Latin Club member and served as vice president of Student Council. Her junior year, she was selected to represent King at Girls ' State b. Sir Mike Featherston An athlete with versatile abilities. Mike Featherston played varsity football and baseball all three years at King, earning all district honors in both sports Selected for membership in National Honor Society his junior year, he was an honor physics stu- dent Mike was a member of the Latin Club for three years c. Sir Lewis Gutierrez An outstanding music student, Lewis Gutierrez was named to the All District Band all three years at King. Another three time honor for the ' 71-72 band president was making first division in University Inter- scholastic League Solo competition Lewis served on the band council in 1970-71 and earned all-region honors this year Even though kept busy with band activi- ties. Lewis ' academic achievement gained him National Honor Society membership His senior year he was in the Spanish Club d. Lady Kay Hendricks A promising journalist, Kay Hendricks sen ed on The Hoolbeal staff three years, acting as copy editor this year In Austin last Spring Kay won state in headline writ- ing competition at the University Interscho- lastic League meet. Her outstanding work in high school journalism earned Kay membership in Quill and Scroll, national journalism honor society. She also contrib- uted to Spoonful and Stash In February, Kay was announced one of Kings ' five Na- tional Merit Finalists and earlier this year she received the DAR Good Citizenship Award- Maintaining a high academic aver- age, Kay was regularly on the honor roll and was a two year National Honor Socie- ty member, in addition to being active in Biology Club. Latin Club. Alfred, Chess Club, and Future Teachers Other service groups to which she contributed were the cafeteria committee ( ' 69- ' 70). student lounge committee ( ' 69- ' 70) and clean-up committee ( ' 71 - ' 72). 114 honors
