Team work, sportsmanship stressed by Soccer Club The Richard King High School Soc- cer Club was formed this year to fur- ther the cause of soccer as a district sport and. at the same time, to allow individuals to express themselves in a game of skill. Practice was held after school three days a week during which time the principles of team work and sportsmanship were stressed. Players this year were David Sexton, Chuck Johnson. Bill Simmons, offen- sive captain; Jeff Beynon, Eric Moede, Pat Nye, Don Boomgaarden, team captain: Stephen Marcum, defensive captain; Stan Dunn, Larry Olsen. New sponsor, new name for literary magazine With a new sponsor, Mrs. Jayne Selby, and a new name, the creative writing classes joined with several other students who volunteered their time and talents to produce the literary magazine, Stash. Gathering selec- tions from the start of school through the second semester, Co-editors Lau- rel Cooper and Cgrolyn Snyder worked many hours after school with art Editor Jenny Ferrell and Leslie Nini; who wrote the ads for the ad book, to lay the foundation for second semes- ter contributors, who would put the finishing touches on the magazine. a.ln a meeting to organize Stash. Holll Bryce, Stephanie Hayden, Co-editors Carolyn Snyder and Laurel Cooper, and Charlie Shaw meet with Mrs Jayne Selby to lay the magazine ' s founda- tion. a Balloon sale first Biology Club fund-raiser MS a part of their concern over the Cayo Del Oso issue, members of the King Biology Club undertook several different projects in conjunction with the controversy. The nesting habits of birds were observed and recorded on film. Studies of the surrounding areas included history of the sedimentary formation, the chemicals present, the various live plants, and a survey of the original current with the present cur- rent. President Gracie Garza, Vice President Belinda Avtia. Treasurer Denise Daniels, Secretary Carolyn Hicks, and Parliamentarian Joan Jen- nings helped lead members through the year with projects, field trips, and money-raising projects, the first of which was a sale of balloons during football season. b.
