Calendar Couples This year the junior class revived a tradition that was begun in 1960 and was run intermittently throughout 25 years at King High School This tradition was the contest of the calendar couples, and was spon- sored by the junior class for their senior year. It began -when the junior class of- ficers decided to compensate for the seniors' loss of privileges due to the closing of campus. Each senior girl that wanted to enter the contest had to choose a senior male escort, pay an entrance fee, and attend practice ses- sions. The competition was judged by the Buccaneers, the Swashbucklers and modeling agents. Their scores were based on: 1) poise — does the couple carry themselves gracefully? 2) appearance — is the couple pleasing to the eye? and 3) stage personality — does the couple get along well together? The judges watched the couples demonstrate their fashion flair and their ability to answer impromptu questions. Thirteen couples were chosen as win- ners — one to represent each of the twelve months and one for calendar cover. Although there were only 26 people chosen as “winners. each contestant made a great contribution to the suc- cess of the show, and because of this every contestant was a winner.
