CLASS HISTORY In the year 1948, sixty-four timid boys and girls were directed to room number 4 and the Home Economics building with Miss Burtie Carroll and Mrs. Howell Patterson as home room teachers. We lost nine out of our sixty-four that year. Wayne Hall, K. T. Gillespie, Bobby Cromer, Jack Cromer, Ina Merritt, Margaret Browder, and Ray Sands quit school for unknown reasons. Virginia Martin and Treva Webster were the first to stop for marriage. The next year we were sophomores, and we were still in separate groups. Mrs. Pauline Dun- can and Mr. Odell Neal were our home room teachers. We were very proud to have Billy Bob Barr, Betty Newsome, and Emodean Nance make the basketball teams. Leo Holder, Patsy Boyles, Alvin Hill, Betty Newsome, and Virginia Payne dropped out of school. Our junior year meant the meeting of two separate classes in one large habpy class. We were now in the Library with Mrs. Clifton Stevens as our home room teacher. Before long. Bobby Gene Lawson, Janie Venable, Margie Duggins and Norma Jean Griffin had left us. Francis Spainhour and Mozelle Rutledge did not return from their sophomore year-the reason-matrimony. Mary Anderson Booe entered Salem Academy to continue her studies. Gaynell Bennett, a new student was gladly accepted by the Juniors. The Junior class sponsored the annual Halloween Carnival in October, 1950. to raise money for the junior-Senior Banquet. It was a great success, with lots of hard work-but a lot of fun also. Geraldine Moser of our class was elected queen for the second year. One of the high lights in our life occurred on the night of May 4. 1951. All dressed up in formal clothes, the Juniors. along with the Seniors and the faculty, gathered on the Balinese Roof of the Robert E. Lee Hotel in Winston-Salem for a banquet. Entertainment was presented bv the Dorminy Studio. Everyone wanted to learn to dance afterward! Everyone got home safely as far as we know-at least they all showed up at school the next day. When Commencement time rolled around C. A. Hunsucker. Bobbie jean Barr, Marv Lee Petree, Junior Grabs, and Annie Ruth Lynch were selected as marshals. We hated to see the Seniors go, but we were glad to take their place. The junior class party was given bv Mr. and Mrs. Bill Byrd and Mr. and Mrs. Golden Baker at the Y. M. C. A. Camp. Everyone had a grand time. Then in September, 1951. we at last took our seats in the Senior room with Mrs. Nell Voss as our teacher. Our class had then decreased to thirty-five who were looking forward to graduating in the Spring of 1952. We presented our Senior Plav in November in the King High School Auditorium. We selected a three-act comedy entitled No Foolin'. Our grade parents, Mr, and Mrs. Bill Byrd and Mr. and Mrs. Coley Hunsucker, gave us a Christmas party at the King American Legion Hut. Everyone enjoyed the fun and refreshments and seemed satisfied with their gifts. When we returned from the Christmas holidavs, we found that Marv Lee Perree had married Glenn Tuttle. It wasn't long until Geraldine Moser had changed her name by marrying Wayne Hall. The Senior Class received an invitation from Elon College in February asking us to attend their Anniual Senior Day. A group of 29 seniors along with Mr. Felts left on Wednesday. February 6 for their exciting trip to Elon. We arrived a little while before lunch, and began touring the Campus. We had a lot of free time to inspect college life and then we are supper in the dining hall. That night we attended the ball game between Appalachian and Flon. We left the College at 9:45 p. m. and around 11:30 p. m. a tired bunch of Seniors stepped off the bus in King. At the time of this writing, most of our four high school years are historv. only 3 short time remains until we shall receive our diplomas and vo our separate wavs. Then will renwafn onl memories of our ha t' h ' ' f y ppy imes spent etc together. Thus we part, all with high hopes for the uture.
