He ninth cruise into these waters, she was never more active or deeply involved with challenging assignments within the U.S. Seventh Fleet-a fine cruise it was, and a privilege too, to be a part of the end of the long Vietnam War. This book has been prepared to preserve those ex- periences. I respect your long hours of dedication and family separation. It was that personal sacrifice and in- dividual unselfish effort that provided the basis for our success. Your teamwork while on the line, paralleled with good fun ashore and hard work during short upkeep periods exemplifies your professionalism. Enjoy reflections of the cruise in this book as you can feel justly proud of a job undertaken with enthusiasm and done well. Best Regards, R. R.
