N u MARLENE ELSTAD Carnival Queen SOCIAL LIFE IN KINDRED HIGH Who does not enjoy a party especially one m which helpless Freshmen are tortured by unrelentmg Sophomores who stxll remember the pam of their own xnxtiatxon However even the Freshmen had a wonderful txme when they were welcomed to I-hgh School on September 12 The cruel Sophomores had posted then' edactxon Thursday and on Friday xt was obeyed to the letter Each boy wore a nxghtgown and carried his youngest child on h1s arm fthezr s1ster s sufferxng doll, and the gxrls were things of beauty decked in long underwear and straw hats and carrymg fxshmg poles The king and queen ofthe l946 freshmen Donna Thoen and Pat Desmond, passed their txtle to joyce Stenberg andDonn.ld Ulness The upper classmen were regaled by a parade of the lovely fxsherladxes and they elected Phylhs Thoen Best Fxsher of 1947 Among the mothers Rodney Thompson was elected Best Mother of 1947 The sophomores served lunch and then led the gay crowd mn games Halloween This Halloween the Commercxal Club the Legmon Post and the Auxzlxary sponsored a movxe for the students and due to then' efforts a great deal of destruction was prevented To honor its football team the I-hgh School under the able generalshlp of Marlene Elstad presented a football banquet m the gymnaslum Stan Kostka and Eugene Fitgerald were the guest speakers mtroduced with the proper degree of solemnxty by Mr Miller actxng as M C The bxggest money malung event Ln the history of Kxndred Hxgh School the carmval on November 14 was a defxnlte success A short short play Zooey Zxde of Zeke by Marvm Lahren and Marlene Morgan and numbers rendered by the band and the trxo were enjoyed to the utmost by the whxstlmg candy eatxng crowd At 10 o clock Marlene Ellstad was crowned queen She was attended by Joyce Stenberg Freshman candxdate Donna Thoen Sophomore candxdate and Beverly Desmond jumor candxdate The race for the crown had been a close one and lt netted a tidy sum for the coffers of the school Drawxng auctioneers from the crowd prxzes orxginally mtended for Bingo were sold t . . 4 4 ' . .
