It was indeed a big event that fall morning of 19 7, when 66 eager freshman entered the doors of K H S Our first social activity was the Freshman Sophomore Part A our first President we chose Eugene Romenesko 'School Daze was the theme of our big dance that year Bernadine Van Boekel left us during the year to take residence elsewhere At last we had outgrown the term of ngreen freshmen' and held the position of Sophomores at K H S A lot of campaigning was done before Lyle Harke was elected as President It was now our turn to play host to the latest addition at the Freshman Sophomore Party As the year progressed, thefamilipr-faces of Tom Schiltz, Cornelius Van Bout, Eugene Verhagen, Leonard Weyengard, Ervin Melcher, Sherry Lonzo and Peggy Weiss were no longer seen in our corridors We all worked together to create a homecoming float that would take first place, but the Juniors overran us, and knocked us down to second To have a change of tradition, the boys took charge of the Vic tory Dance in honor of the Basketball team that went to state, Our Sophomore year closed with a group of students looking forward to a well earned vacation Vacation flew by quickly, and we found ourselves occupying the Junior seats we then elected Albert Vander Weilen to lead ua through our third year At our Hard Time Thanksgiving Dance, every one appeared in shirts and jeans and a good time was had by all Our class rings of yellow, rose and white gold, were complimented by our rivals the Seniors Early in the year, George Ermers, Petronella Vander Zanden, and Bob De Valk no longer took the daily nApple Blossom Timen was the theme of our Junior Prom, which was under the capable leadership of Charlene Schneider and Henry Wulterkens Albert Vander Weilen reigned as Prom King and he chose Margie Lind, who had transferred from Appleton High, as his Queen Branches of apple blossoms covered the walls on both sides of the gym, and in each corner a different scene was depicted A huge revolving ball, covered with mirrors, sent light sparkling to every corner of the room Charlene Schneider took a trip to hadison as a representative to Badger Girls State, while Eugene Romenesko and Bob Philipsen went to Ripon as representatives to Badger Boys State All in all, the year proved to be a big success, and we were looking forward to be coming Seniors Coming back to K H S in the fall of the year as Seniors, we immediately started to get into the swing of things We held a number of dances after football games Claire Busch was our Home coming Queen and she chose Don Kneepkens, our class President, as King There was a great deal of rivalry between the Junior and Senior Class floats, but the Seniors walked away with first place The Senior girls selected Charlene Schneider as D A R repre sentative Those who left school this year were, Pete Van Krey, Dolores Santkuyl, Lila Vander Zanden, and Dick Cotinor Ginny Daniel left us during the year to be married The Senior class play, Funny Facen, was presented on April 25th to a large audience We realized that our big day for graduation, Hay 31, was draw ing near and soon we wouldn't be seeing the familiar faces so we decided that Chicago would be an ideal place for our farewells Now we are anxiously awaiting the day when we will proudly re ceive our diplomas and can declare ourselves alumni of Kimberly High School W! 1+ - y. s trip to K.H.S.
