39's CHILDHOOD By the s1de of Plymouth Alley By the Tr1n1ty Apartments Stood the wrgwam of MISS Warlng And M1ss Iordan ln 1ts glory Here am1d September colors In the year of twenty seven Came a group of Montclau ma1dens Now arrxved as noble seniors Soon to leave the1r Alma Mater To the w1gwam every Frlday Brought the1r dolhes dogs and teddles Learned they then the rhymes of chrldhood Learned to sew and weave and hammer Then departed for the summer When arnved another autumn Back they trooped to wr1te adventures Then th1s group of gentle maldens Turned to study Indlan warrlors F1erce became 1n cotton deerskms MISS McDev1tts Class attentlon Could not qulet down the1r war whoops After thlrd grade s stabs at French Had turned them all to knowmg scholars Down they went to fourth grade troubles Long d1v1s1on sclence Enghsh H1story of the V1k1ng warrlors Egypt Greece and Roman nobles Through the frfth grade where so many Strrcken lay w1th awful measles Fmally to M1ss Flannerys k1ngdom Where they llved 1n da1ly terror Lest they lose the1r teachers prarses Here appeared the loathesome fractxon To be added and subtracted Multlplred and then d1v1ded Also came the praymg mantls For whom caught they flles and beetles Bugs and worms and other 1nsects Then Ul'1'1V9d that dreadful moment When there came an outsrde teacher For a t1me to teach the1r classes Changed each mazden then her name And took the t1tle of her nelghbor Completely m1x1ng up the teacher T111 she called them all by numbers When the seventh grade was over And the1r chlldhood fl1'l1Sl'16d done w1th Up they went to meet M1ss Galhe And the stormy seas of Lattn In that dreadful year of elghth grade All developed senlor crushes Drove sald semors to d1stract1on Wrth the1r glfts and calf l1ke glances Cured were they by graduatlon Weepxng left they for the summer he er agaln to see the1r loved one Nmth grade started maldens boyward And the madness of the dance musrc Mowed them down rn the countless numbers And to add to all the1r troubles Prckled ln a slck mng l1qu1d When they reached the realm of B1g Room And galned the cognomen of soph mores Then appeared the frxghtful essay And Iullus Cae ars Galllc Battles And only through the1r teacher s efforts D1d they reach the1r state of Iumors When they all were sunk 1n homework Burled under books and class day Busy they both day and 1'11gl'1ll1IT19 Every week end each vacatron Grlndlng porlng over school books Never rest1ng never stopp1ng T111 exams were over done Wllh When they all left re1o1c1ng Now they re senlors loved and honored Talkmg gabblng all through study Wearlng l1pSl1Ck heels and chewlng D1sobey1ng every rule and Hunnlng everyth1ng w1th gusto Twelve long years w1l1 soon be over And the1r loyful happy school days In the past w11l l1e forgotten Ann Heartt pam Irv nly om KIMBERLEAVES Paper feathers, cardboard arrows.
