The limes demand men of firm convicfions and persevering courage wifh a willingness fo sacrifice for fhe liberfy of all mankind, a burning desire for iusfice, and a feeling of confidence fhaf Trufh and Righf will evenfually prevail. The developmenf of all of fhese qualifies in a group of boys is a very large order. If seems fo me, however, fhaf if is of li'Hle value fo be a good sfudenf of English, Mafhemafics, Hisfory, Science or any ofher field of learning unless you have developed, or will develop, fhe above characferisfics and many ofhers closely relafed fo fhem. You boys have been frained in fhe classrooms and on fhe play fields of Kimball Union in much fhe same manner as fhose youfhs of Efon Rugby, Harrow, Winchesfer, and ofher fam- ous English schools who have played such a greaf parf in fhe defense of fhe Brifish Empire. You have learned fhe rules of fair play, fo fake your knocks and iniuries wifh a smile in fhe manner of all good sporfsmen, fo pull vicfory ouf of almosf cerfain defeaf, and you have learned fo sacrifice personal desires and pleasures for fhe welfare of your feam and for fhe good name of your class and Kimball Union. You have shown faifh in your feachers and your coaches, and have foughf fhrough your many assignment. wifh confidence fhaf fhey had given you fhe necessary working fools and fhaf you were equipped fo puf up a winning baffle regardless of fhe odds againsf you.
