A The Lady Knights battle for the loose ball. Vorsiry girls win district chompronship The 1985-86 girls Varsity Basketball team en- joyed an outstanding season by winning the district title. With an overall record of sixteen wins and nine losses, the team should be commended on their winning season. In district play, the Knights ended the season with an overall record of eight wins and one loss. Although all teams were tough opponents, Carter proved to be the major rival. Several players received special recognition for the efforts on the court. These players were: Paula Peteet and Charlesa Blake, 1st Team All-District, Bridgette Williams, 2nd Team All-District, Paula Peteet, Player of the Year, and Shetha Cokes, Honorable Mention. I am pleased we won district, commented Coach Belinda Whitson, but I am disappointed about the outcome of the bi-district playoffs. hove T'cIossic seoson Freshmen The Freshman Basketball team finished second in district play. The Knights' season ended with an overall record of fourteen wins and four losses. Throughout the season, the Knights defeated many good teams. This season's wins include a victory over arch rival Carter. In pre-season play, the Knights defeated South Oak Cliff by a score of 49-47. This gave the Knights an extra push to become a better basketball team. The freshman basketball team had many good T players this year. Among those were: Mauria Crain, Samuel Moore, Roy Collier, Dennis Dabney, and Ray Shuford. These players averaged between six and twelve points per game, which is outstanding for freshman players. 3 Coach Lark was very proud of his team's efforts. The season began on a sour note with a loss to Spruce. However, through hard work and training, the Knights had a fine winning season.
