T Knights become stote runners-up No one believed it would happen, but it did. The Kimball Varsity Basketball team went to the 5-A state tournament. Then to defy the odds even more, the Knights made it to the finals. After a close game, the Knights eased past Wheatley of Houston. In the finals, Amarillo nar- rowly defeated the Knights 63-68. Going to the state tournament was the climax of a successful year. The team proved that hard work and discipline pays off. In the regular season, only two teams edged past the Knights. ln district play in Waco, Kimball paved its way to state. Coach jimmy Tubbs was the nucleus of it all. The Knights pulled together and proved when the go- ing gets tough, the tough get going. Rod Hampton passes the ball past Amarillo defender. With a respectable record of seven wins, two losses, and one tied ame, these young Kniglhts gained further experience whic wil help them as they advance to the 1V team nextyear. The whole team participated in the season in one way or another. Whether on the field or on the sidelines, the freshman Knights displayed outstanding support for the team. Coach Gray recognized several Elayers whose efforts on the field elped the Knights throughout the season. These players were: Keith Abney, jeff Houston, Eric Perry, Steve Brown, Cornelius Gibson, Luis Meyers, and Dyalan Beamon.
