Robbins 1247, Richardson 1665, and Cuzick C773 meet the Carter captains for the toss. Kimball Kicks Cousins, 22-10. Kimball opened the series with the newest member of District 6-AAAA in fine fashion by blasting the Carter Cowboys 22-10. For most Kimballites, this victory was the highlight of the 1967 campaign. William Poe started the scoring for the Knights with a safety by blocking a Cowboy punt out of the endzone. Early in the second quarter, Mike Atnip increased Kimball's lead with an 18 yard touchdown run. After a Carter field goal, Kimball began a 70 yard drive that was climaxed on a 12 yard touch- down pass from Greg Duffey to Melvin Wadle. The Knights final score came on a one yard plunge by Wayne Kofnovec. at I, 4, STEVE POLLARD JERRY COX Letterman 1 fLetterman not picturedg WAYNE KOFNOVECJ '69 C4 k I1 kkkk Ir rk.. .. . GLYNN LEATH GARY MC FATRIDGE Knights Fall In Finale, 14-8. ln the final game of the season for both teams, South Oak Cliff squeaked past the Knights on a field that contained nearly as much water as earth. Throughout the entire first half, the Knights looked about like the weather as they allowed the Bears two easy touchdowns. The first Bear score came on a 43 yard punt return. Their second tally came after a Knight fumble on its own one yard line. Something happened during halftime, how- ever, and Knights returned to action like a new team. Kimball started its comeback by scoring a safety when ,lon Mclvcr blocked a S.O.C. punt in the endzone. Moments later, Greg Duffey dove over from the one to make the score 14-8. With seconds remaining, Kim- ball drove inside the Bear 15 yard line be- fore losing the ball on downs. This game was a fitting ending for a team that dominated statistics in nearly every contest, but could not seem to come up with the big play and breaks that are necessary for a title winner. 279

A homecoming crowd of 9,500 fans watched the Knights host the undefeated Sunset Bisons. For three quarters, Kimball surprised the Bi- sons as the Knights marched across the field, yet never able to push over for the score. During this period, Kimball's defense, led by Ralph Fulton, David Robbins, and Stan Cuzick, kept Sunsetis offense bottled up deep in their own end of the field, while allowing the Bi- sons only six first downs. Early in the final quarter, Sunset managed their lone drive for a score. Kimballis come- back attempts were nullified by losing two fumbles, and a couple more pass interceptions -all in the fourth quarter. The final fumble set up Sunsetis game clinching field goal that came with -18 seconds remaining in the game.
