BASKETBALL Kimball won the North Platte Valley Conference this year in basketball for the first time since entering this conference in 1937. We won seven and lost one of our conference games. Another feature for the Longhorns this year was that they did not lose a home game. Our reserve team won 16 games while losing only one. This shows considerable promise for future Longhorn teams. The Freshman team won the Invitational Freshman tournament at Sidney. They also participated in a tournament at Mitchell, but they were eliminated by Mitchell. The Junior High Team was represented by a hard-fighting team that lacked size. They won the consolation trophy in the Sidney Junior Tournament. Mr. Blank coaches the Junior High team. The following boys earned basketball letters this year: Martin Esch, David Janicek, Sterling Kath, Kenneth Kellner, Claude Kelly, Clitus Kelly, Berton Linn, LeRoy Marshno, James Stander, Dick Wilson, Larry Pedrett, and Jack Vencill (student manager). —28
